Default So where do you buy your ….. T-Stat and coolant

So where do you buy your engine coolant. Recently I noticed the faint smell of antifreeze and my reservoir was slightly down. Pressure tested the system and it held pretty good. The smell seemed to come from the T-Stat area and knowing that the housing can deteriorate with age and crack, as a preventative measure I bought a new housing and T-stat. The cost from the dealer was not bad, what I did not expect was the price of the coolant $110. + tis (Canadian) for a 5L jug. As I was there I bought it, but was wondering where others buy theirs…..

Don't have the receipt available, but pretty sure I bought the following, although I think the price was a bit lower at the time ~$145 USD:

07 2007 Jaguar XK Thermostat Assembly - Cooling System - Genuine - PartsGeek

I got the antifreeze at a local home improvement store, it met the spec listed in the owners manual. Think it was around $20 USD per gallon.

Thanks kj07xk. The t-stat and complete housing (not just the 'goose neck) with temp sending unit was slightly over $200 Canadian which seemed OK for a dealer price. The price of the coolant seemed a bit out of whack. Funny enough, I called the parts store that I usually deal with and they do carry orange coolant - wss-m97b44d - at half the Jaguar price. I'm not a cheap guy, but, I will return the high priced coolant back to the dealership and go have a drink with my buds with the difference looked at your link and its exactly what I picked up.

Interestingly enough I did go to Canadian Tire and they did not stock it. Got it at Lordcos.

You can purchase the complete thermostat housing assembly w/thermostat from Terry's Jaguar for less than $60. I use Jaguar recommended Chevron's Havoline Extended Life coolant.

Can you attach a link? I couldn't find an XK 07 and up page on Terry's site.

Depends on VIN and engine, but for 4.2.. This is OE from the manufacturer to Jaguar.

Looks sort of similar, but not exactly the same, so you might have fitment problems trying to use that one on a 4.2 XK (the temp sensor is in a different location, and the pipe from the engine block to the thermostat looks longer).

There are too many different combinations over the year ranges and engine models for one fits all. It might be worth your time to call them though, and let a part specialist see if they can get the OE for you. Just sayin'

+1 as above. I just purchased a complete housing from Jaguar and while the image On the link looks close, I think its slightly different.
