Sports Recaro seats - are they worth the extra?
I currently drive a 2005 XKR (X100) and was perfectly happy with it until I drove a 2013 model. It made my pride and joy feel like an old bus
I am seriously thinking about changing...
Question: the Recaros in my car look fantastic, but I've never found them that comfortable. I see the sports seats in a new X150 are over £3000 extra. Are they worth it? They look awesome, but are they comfortable and supportive?
Thanks
Here's a photo of the car I drove earlier this week

The stock seats in the newer XK(R)s are VERY comfortable but, slippery with not enough lateral support for serious cornering. So, the decision is really up to your personal driving habits and preferences. We have Bruce on this forum and he regularly tracks his XKR with, I believe, the standard seats. I would probably prefer the more supportive sport seats for such driving.
If you are NOT into race-car like driving, comfort and the ease of getting in and out would likely be better with the stock seat.

I guess they are standard - I've never checked. They are 7 way adjustable, heated and cooled seats. I believe I have read in another thread that the sports seats do not have cooling.
The Recaro seats in my 2002 did not allow bolster adjustment, and my legs did not fit into the seat area. The seats in my 2010 allow the adjustment of the bolsters which can give you a tighter fit when needed. The other adjustments allow the lower seat area to be pulled in or pushed out, tilt, lumbar, and I can't remember what else.
I have not sat in many other car with such comfortable seats.

I find my 2010 standard seats quite good for spirited driving on public roads, but for more aggressive conditions you definitely want all the support you can get the closer you push towards the limits. I achieve that by locking the seat belt with the seat all the way rearwards and then pull forward and let it snug you into the seat. Easy to do with the seat memory programmed for ideal position...1 for normal driving, 2 for track, and 3 for rearward cushion and seatback to use when locking belt with 2.
If you like the sport seats then by all means go for them, but both seats would still benefit from locking the belt, and the more effective support upgrade is probably a 5 or 6 point harness to secure your body in place under all conditions including braking.
Btw, I find the cooled stock seats make dicing it up with Vettes, Vipers and 911 GT3 an even more pleasurable experience
