Default Squeaking front seat

Hello everyone! This is my first post, so apologies if I do/say something blindingly obviously wrong!

Recently purchased a 2011 XK, and am quite in love! It runs a treat and everything is exactly as it should be, except...

Earlier this week I leant back in the seat a bit far to adjust my coat... when I went to adjust the back angle of the seat afterwards there was a click. Seat works perfectly still, and no subsequent clicks, but have noticed that it creaks when I sit in it. Not generally, just as I get in, and it's coming from the pad directly underneath where one sits at the back. Whatever position the seat is in, it's the same. Am unsure if this was always there, but have only noticed it since the click as I was worried I had damaged it!

My question, I suppose, is two fold. Have I done this by leaning back? And how does one fix and squeaky seat? Is it a garage job or something I can do myself? Thanks in advance!

HI Geraint. I'm not quite clear on your description. Are you writing about a spring like squeak or leather rubbing against itself? I've had a similar experience and it turned out to be leather from the back of my seat rubbing against the back seat leather based on how I adjusted the seat. I moved the seat forward an inch and problem solved. I didn't have a clicking issue though.

Thanks for the reply! It's definitely more of a spring kind of squeak, but as I say only seems to be initially when it goes from having no weight to being compressed fully.

Geraint, so your saying it didn't do this before your antics with your coat?

I'd suggest adjusting the seat on all parameters, then if it persists then take the seat out check if anything is strained/bent/broken (it's really impossible to do it in-situ)

Finally, and most importantly, are you sure your car isn't telling you your @rse is too big and it wants to go back to the previous more svelte owner?

Be a good chap and post up your location, you could be around the corner from me but I'd not know.

PS: Welcome to the forum!

Not sure if you resolved your creak. Just found this which mentions creaky seats

I developed a similar creak. Quite annoying matter.

I can't find a place to buy the grease specified in Service Bulletin though (Nyogel 774 L).

There's an alternative called Tribosyn 320 Red available in UK but it will take ages to arrive in Poland.

Are there any other alternatives?

Thanks. With this car I never know if it needs a Special Jaguar Grease (like for the brakes service bulletin) or something common 😄
