Default squealing brakes... argghh...

Hi all,

This is a photo of my new baby, Genevieve... 2008, 98,000 miles, almost perfect... BUT, her brakes squeal!!?

Over the past couple of weekends, I have whipped all wheels off and greased all the appropriate connection points @ the calipers and pads, but, although it is better than it was, I still have the squeal.

The squealing is @ low speed, light brake application, and intermittent, only when coming to a full stop??

Any ideas on what to do next? The pads that are on her are proper Jaguar pads, with tons of meat left on them (well over 1/2")... b ut I am a bit stuck now as I think I have done the obvious stuff??? (maybe?)

Cheers in advance for any advice y'all might have.

Best regards, Ian in Atlanta (although originally Dundee, Scotland)
my new baby... 2008, 98000 miles, not a mark on her... (hers names Genevieve)...

Your pads and rotors are probably glazed. You can fix it yourself if you have the right tools. Sand down the pads evenly with whatever you have to get to good material, and take a coarse flapper disk to the rotors, both sides, to get a good hatches surface. OR, have the rotors lightly turned by a shop.

hi Ian try mintex anti-squeal , apply liberly to back of pads it will help , look on eBay it's only a couple of dollars for the small tube , The problem is the pads move about , Try taking car for a run on a long quiet road and get up to 50mph then slowly brake down to 5mph , do this 10 times but without stopping , You can also try braking sharply 10 times again without stopping , the discs (rotors can have hot spots on them this can also cause a squeal

How about a few hard 70 - 0 full stop braking? That usually clears up many squeaks; especially if the pads are glazed.

If deglazing the pads and applying anti-squeal grease doesn't work there are at least two more things you can try.
1. CRC De-Squeak: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CRC-05080-D...AAAOSweP9eTOdW
I used it many years ago (not on a Jag) and it worked great to completely eliminate annoying brake squeal. It's a bit of a PITA to use as you need to thoroughly coat both sides of each rotor then burnish it on by using much the same technique as is used to bed new pads in - lots of hard brakings one after the other (without stopping) until you can smell it burning on and you can see grey smoke. Makes me dizzy/nauseous when I do it though!
2. Replace the brake pads with ceramic pads. All three of my Jags (2010 XFS, 2010 XFR, 2014 F-Type) came with OEM pads and all three made a horrible graunching sound just as the car was coming to a stop, and nothing I did helped until I fitted ceramic brake pads. Hey Presto, the graunch was banished forever.
You will also get two more benefits - much smoother and more progressive braking especially in stop/go traffic, and waaaaay less brake dust than the horribly dusty OEM pads.
