Default Starting issues

On occasion (random) on pushing the start button the engine will crank without starting unless I give it gas. The other starting issue is it will immediately start and then die immediately unless you give it gas. It is at the dealer now (fortunately CPO) and of course they cannot duplicate the problem. The didn't give me the code numbers but, they have high voltage, low voltage and starter button codes. To me it seems more like a fuel pressure issue but, that may be old school thinking. Has anyone else had this experience?

So the dealer did a software update and tested the battery and said it only had 509 CCA. Is this an issue? Barrery is only 2 years old and installed by another dealer in town. I'm going to see if there is any warranty on the battery. BTW Wanted $300 for the battery and installation. Any advice???

Spec for the standard 4.2 battery is 800 CCA, so it sounds a bit sick. Can't comment on the dealer quote, because I'm not in the US. But I'd guess you could get a decent AGM battery & fit it yourself for less.

When it does start is there any black smoke?

Maybe injectors are leaking fuel after shut down?

Just a guess.

That was one of my first thoughts that the fuel system was becoming depressurized. But, the random natue of the problem would seem to rule that out. No smoke on start at all.

Well, the home screen wouldn't come up. Looks like battery time. Is an AGM the best route?

If the car is not driven at least every day or two, and you do not use a battery maintainer, then an AGM is a very good idea.

If it is a daily driver, the case for an AGM is not as strong.
