Default Sunvisor

Hello all,
My driver's sun visor does the dreaded "pop and sag." From reading previous posts on the matter, I thought some pictures of the procedure might be warranted.

First, remove the sunvisor: it's easy: just pop the plastic cover away and there is one #15 torx screw. Remove it, unclip the wire and it's much easier to work with out of the car.

Second, remove the mirror assembly. There are 4 clips... shown in pictures.

Third, clamp the clamshell together. There is a lot of force to overcome.

Fourth: plastic weld the clam shell. I have not yet done this. I'm thinking of using a stainless steel mesh to put across the span, then melting it into the plastic to strengthen the bond. I will use the flat end of the tip on my soldering iron to press into the mesh/plastic.
Any other ideas are welcome.

First pic: close-up of clamshell.. you can see the gap and the red and blue wires snaking in, second is close-up of the flat tab that the rounded clip from mirror snaps onto, third is close-up of the aforementioned clip and the final pic is the sun visor on the table for perspective.

Well, I must say the combination of JB Weld plastic epoxy and plastic welding did not hold. Putting a screw in is difficult without removing the fabric. I may need a professional trimmer to get it sorted properly. I noticed the fabric on the A pillars is sagging anyway….

The mesh melted into the plastic (and J/B) might be stronger. I've been thinking of this scheme for mine.

I used this with several c-clamps overnight. Cardboard between the fabric and the clamp. Still solid a couple of months later.

Good luck.

Good… its not just me. I have never had success with JB Weld. I have always had success with ( the more expensive ) 3M products.
