Default Supercharger sound

Hello everyone:

I am looking at a 2013 xkr to buy. Owner says he does not hear the super charger growl when accelerating. Is this a problem or is there always a growl when you hit the gas on a xkr? I would think you would always hear the supercharger but I do not own one so I don't really know.

The 4.2 XKRs have a bit of blower whine on hard acceleration. The 5.0 liters don't have whine at all. That's supposedly an 'improvement' the Jag engineers worked into the intake tubes and other such stuff.
I WISH mine whined.

It's repairable....

Remove engine cover, remove intakes, whine will be back.

I've had 4 supercharged cars so far; the loudest blower being on a 2004 Grand Prix GTP (completely stock), then 98 XJR (4L), then 00 XKR (4L), then 07 XKR (4.2L) being the quietest. I'm mixed on the lack of blower noise. I like the noise overall on my 07 XKR with the stock exhaust but fuse pulled; but the noise level of my 4L SC unit would be neat too. I think the low level of noise somewhat fits the refined bruiser nature of these cars.

I have a Vortech centrifugal supercharger on my '95 Mustang GT, and it whines like a spoiled kid at a buffet. Even at idle it's obvious there's something going on.
A good place to hear a 2007 XKR whine is in that Top Gear video of XKR vs V8 Vantage.

Cone filters will unleash the whine.
