Those good and great moments with your XK(R) that made you smile
Hi guys, needless to say, owning a car like the XK / XKR brings a lot of pleasure and good moments...these can be compliments received, kids that go "wow" upon seeing our car, thumbs up, etc...well, anything connected to your Jag that put a smile on your face.
Last weekend, there was this guy with his Boxster S who at some point started speeding up like mad because he thought he could bury me on a twisty countryside road...well, all I can say is that's what he thought...until I passed him (despite this jerk deliberately preventing me to do so at some point!)
So what are your moments?

Some real world questions make me smile in my 2008 XKR:
"What does she do ... 260 mph?!" - smile
"What is it, a 2020?" - smile
"You got a V12 under there? - smile
"Probably costs you $500 just for them to take the engine cover off" - smile

I walked out the door of a sandwich shop last spring and there was a boy about 10 years-old taking a picture of my ride in the parking lot. It seemed like it was the highlight of his day, which in turn made it the highlight of my day.
At self-service gas station - big rapper-type (think Biggie) pulls up at next pump in nice Bentley. I give him a nod and: "Nice Bentley". He nods back, says "Love your ride too, hon". Guess I'm easily impressed...

Other than the weekly "nice looking car" or "great sounding exhaust" both of which have the same results, big **** grin.
Two instances come to mind.
First serious burn out was 8 months into ownership and I was getting new tires next day. So after about 200 feet and in 4th gear I let off the gas as the burn out was ridiculous. Turns out a county sheriff was in the area. Why is it a guy with a Jag looks at a "Unreasonable Acceleration" ticket as a badge of honor? Smile.
Second was at the red light grand prix, new ish Vette pulls up revving his engine looking at me. Light turns green and the little black car in the far lane just leaves us. Next light is red, little black car turns out to be a Tesla, we all line up and the guy in the Vette is no longer looking at me. Smile.
The future is coming and boy is it quick!

This wasn't on my X150, but my old X100...
I was walking out of a store and used Steve's remote to drop the top before I got to my XK8. I heard a guy talking to his wife and he said something like 'I sure wish I could afford something that nice'. His vehicle was a nearly new GMC Acadia or something similar that probably cost him $50k while I got my 7-year old at the time X100 for $8500.
Another time, same X100, I parked at a restaurant way out towards the rear of the lot, nearest car was probably eight stalls away. I helped my wife out and started walking to the door.... when a podunk Chevy whatever parked right frikkin' next to my XK8. I did the wide-arm "WTF?" gesture and walked back to move mine away again. The guy got out and said something like 'What's your problem?' and I replied 'Some people's kids' or whatever. Dude looked at me, then my car, and said "Yeah, that car sure does suit you". I replied, "Yep, rich and powerful". I moved it to the other side of the lot.

The best reaction I had was from a small kid riding his bike (with training wheels). The XKR was parked in the driveway because I was cleaning out my garage. This little kid was coming down the sidewalk on his bike when he sees the car and suddenly slows down in front of my house. He's just staring at the car with wide eyes. When he sees me, he says, "Nice car, mister" and continues on his way.

Marc was born in Morocco, where his father was a rabbi and emigrated to Israel and then to the United States.
He couldn’t get over how smooth my car was; how powerful it felt and the rumble coming from the exhaust! I don’t know how he got back into his Honda Fit!
First drive after I bought my 2008 XKR convertible ("Mick"). Picked up in Delray Beach and drove up coast to Cocoa Beach. Grand touring as it was meant to be. Next time I will put the top down (kidding). And nothing but great memories since then.

my favourite moment was at the border crossing when driving from Toronto to Florida in the 2010 XKR.. We travelled on a UK passport at that time and so would have to go to fill in the forms and be inspected at the immigration services at the crossing. We pulled over to one of the bays where a Border Control officer was waiting and stopped. Before I could open the door he tapped on the window and held his hand up to tell me to stay where I was. I opened the window to see what the problem was and he said "Be careful opening your door, the curbs are high and I wouldn't want you to damage the door". Seems these cars get respect where ever they go..
