RR it takes me back to my youth. Back in around 1970 is when I traded my 63 Corvette for a 66 E coupe . It was my daily driver in summer and winter. I had a 25 mile drive to work and enjoyed it every morning and night. It was a fun car which my bride loved and enjoyed driving. Unfortunately it fell to the winter/salt destruction where the rockers rotted from the inside out. Ended up patching , painting and selling it . I replaced it with a 71 Corvette BB because I didn't want to see rust anymore. So your drive takes me back and I can relate to sitting in the drivers seat . Thanks

 

The rest of the story......
Having to settle for purchasing this 2+2, is the reason I now also have the XK-R vert. I began looking for a roadster in my mid 20s. When I found one, my Ins. com nix-ed it, probably due to my having too many points for speeding. LOL! Good reason, I suppose.
Yet, when I approached them for with is alternative "family" version, they accepted, the challenge, so to speak. This was 43 years ago. So, since the early 70s, I've wanted an XK roaster and the reason I now own my '08 XK-R cvt. It's like the great grand child, of the mid 60s E-Type roadster, I couldn't have........

 

I guess I've been lucky and never had an insurance problem. In fact I only had 1 ticket in 55 years of driving and that was for 4 in the front seat of my 63 Corvette. Shifting was kind of fun , hahaha

 

Well, eventually I took my " need for speed" to the road course at Summit Point. This was a testing and tuning day at the "Point", circa late 60s early 70s.
Knock on wood, my last ticket for speeding was in the E-type, of all cars, while on our way to Ocean City Md. This was in 1978.

 

RR I wonder if a good many of us started to cut our teeth on early English metal. My 1st car was a Triumph TR3A . It would be interesting to get a survey to see who of us started with Triumph's or MG's and Lotus or others. I guess it would be a subject for another post.

Oh I forgot to mention my BIL was a state trooper (retired now) and my best man was a county sheriff. I guess I shoukld have said I didn't get any convictions .

 

Hmm, I guess we should start a classic general British owner's club.
I traded a new '68 Camaro for my '65 TR4. Kept that jewel for 15 yrs. Had an overdrive unit I rigged to operate manual in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Our race TR (4A) was very competitive when running the overdrive. We geared for speed out of the turns, then into the straights in 4th over, still had enough wind to keep up with higher HP boys.
