I have an 2012 XK Convertible. I went to put the top down and it only went down about 10%. I was able to put the top back up using the button. I would appreciate any advice.

The first thing to check whenever you have an electrical problem is the battery.

The initial opening phase of the top uses an electric motor to release the latches and bounce up the front rim of the top, in preparation for the hydraulics to do the next phases. If the top stops after that first phase, then it may be a hydraulics failure or it may be failure of the sensor that detects the end of the first phase.

if you hear the hydraulic pump spinning but the top does not move, then it is a hydraulics failure. Likely low fluid in the reservoir, which you can check and top up.

However if you hear nothing from the hydraulics it is probably an issue with the latch sensors, specifically the sensor that identifies that the latch is open. Most likely it is not the sensor that is bad but rather it is a broken wire in the harness — where it folds and unfolds when the top goes down and up is a hard bend/unbend of the wite. I have chased that problem in my 2010 XK and can tell you that failure there is inevitable given the metal fatigue that the wire experiences. It is an annoying fault because contact comes and goes as the wire and top move around.

Let me know more about your symptoms, and we can go further.
