Default Tried my hand at upgrading the brakes

Picked up some of those nice no/low dust pads and went to put them on the xkr yesterday. Got the wheel off, but could not get the caliper off to save my life. The rotors have a lip on the edge from wear. It's not large, less than .5mm, but I could not get the piston to retract at ALL to come over the lip. I tried everything I know, I've done many brake replacements over the years, but this one just wasn't happening.

Buttoned everything back up, and taking it to the shop this week. I was really surprised, I even opened the bleeder but did not get anywhere at all. I pried it, hammered it gently, pushed on the piston, but nothing.

The rear caliper is a 2 piece set up and you cannot just push in the piston. You would need to unbolt the rear piston caliper from the bracket . The caliper will come off and the pads will remain in the bracket. In order to push the pistons in you need a special tool that both screws in the piston while putting pressure on it. Also before you start taking things apart I assume you made sure the EBrake was off and you could remove the cables. There is a procedure to do that without having the Jaguar system plugged in to back out the EBrake motor . I think there was a post here somewhere so if anyone remembers maybe you can point it out.

I never use my ebrake, I just put it in park, it's very flat here so seldom an issue.

I did make sure I could slide the caliper/pads around on the rotor, it was lose enough to move. I unbolted the holder part with a 7mm allen wrench, which should have let the caliper come off, even sliding against the pads, however it wouldn't move at all. Maybe I'll give it another look tonight.

I just replaced my brakes and rotors this weekend. I put the car in neutral and pulled the negative battery cable to do the rears.

I did my rears a few months ago. Put in park, did not set the e-brake and proceeded from there. I didn't have any problems whatsoever.

Do this and you'll need to replace the disc, btw.

Thank you very much, that's exactly what I needed to see. I feel a bit more confident now.
