Default What do you pay for insurance?

Following Simon Tan's recent prang I searched this forum for 'insurance' and after 4 pages found nothing much.

Having lived stateside for a year (and having been married to an American) know what she paid on a Sebring 3.0 V6 in NM and it was astronomical to what it would cost in the UK

So by way of starting:

Age: 53
Driving for 36yrs
Full No claims discount @ 15yrs
Fully comp with protected no claims and business use to 12k miles pa
1 x claim June 2018 due to fire damage = total write-off (x100)
No criminal convictions and no license points
Car 2012 XK 5.0 Artisan with 39k miles valued at £30k
Excess £100 voluntary £350 compulsory = £450
Insurance cost= £414 UK GBP or $522 USD per annum

Anyone else care to share?

I could sort it out but maybe not worth the effort. I have one of those umbrella type policies. We have 3 cars and a truck along with our house and property on one policy so I suppose I could go sort them out but as long as it doesn't change year to year I don't bother looking at it. Sorry but just not a priority at this time in my life.

I think it was around $1200 a year for the XK when I had it. Similar price for the XE. Rapide is like $800

Thanks, secretive bunch, or else you insurance is an umbrella policy?

It will be my 3rd car and although have looked at umbrella policies I've never found them cheaper

So for instance my home insurance is a mere £141 pa and the other two cars less than £400

This thread made me look at my current insurance.... $1200 every six months. Of course, that's for MY two vehicles and the wife's two. THEREFORE, I guess it's about $300 per six months, $600 per year. But then again, my XKR is a bit costlier than the wife's Lexus, and then her commuter Fusion Hybrid is next. Surprisingly, my F150 is the cheapest of the four.
BUT, that doesn't sound like a deal to me, seeing as we have a BUNCH of 'Discounts'. Every vehicle is Low Mileage Use, we have numerous Home policies, no accidents or tickets for 20+ years.... Time to search for a new rate!!!
Project vehicles have a different policy.
Plus an Umbrella...

Looking back, guess my rates went up in the past 14 months.

Then again you have the typical PREDATORY insurers out there like THE GENERAL.
Just for grins I got a quote on ONLY my XKR....... I can't remember the exact amount, but it was like $2600 Per Year for basic coverage.
Man, I feel bad for people with bad credit. They get screwed something fierce.

When I add or remove a car my insurance doesn't change much.

So if I remove a car, all the remaining cars go up.

If I add a car, all the remaining cars go down.

It isn't so much secretive, but rather that the information of what one is paying won't translate to what another is paying.

Because the OP is in the UK, US insurance costs are irrelevant unless you want to cry on each other's shoulders about the pain in your wallets.

Insurance costs vary widely, depending on a wide range of facts and circumstances. Comparing costs is interesting but not very meaningful because everyone is different.

Which is why I gave salient information in my post

Age
Claims
Mileage
Other vehicles

Some have answered some questions, but don't see anyone that's given their age....vanity perhaps?

Not to worry if you find it offensive then don't reply...simple!

While I know what you are saying, I leave my key in my pocket.

Jags are generally expensive to insure. All of my Jags have been more expensive to insure than the exotic cars I have owned.

I don't know why you thought I was offended, but I wasn't. I was simply pointing out that there are no "one-size-fits-all" answers to your question. Perhaps you were offended by my reply, but that was not my intent.

You may have thought that you provided all of the salient information for a car insurance quote but, at least in the USA, you did not. Most insurers request much more information. Anyone who is interested can read about it here:

https://www.insurance.com/auto-insur...urers-ask.html

Comparing Forum members insurance costs won't reveal anything except that they vary. It's difficult, if not impossible, to compare apples-to-apples.

I get new quotes every 6 mos and change every 6 - 12mos to get a better price. I pay $2800/6 mos with 2 adults and 3 young drivers and 4 newish cars. It's "sofa king" insane.

You pay dearly for young drivers and new cars.

Just make sure that you go with an insurance company that is financially stable. What good are low premiums if they can't pay claims? Check here: http://consumers.ambest.com/consumersearch.aspx

Because I have never made a claim, my insurance should not be climbing.

When it does, I get quotes.

Kinda sad that loyalty doesn't have its rewards.
