Default What should be done after disconecting the battery

Hello all and I will appreciate the reply from a tecnician,

What should be done after disconecting the battery one hour, I guess the shop has only reprogrammed the remote key.

I have a message saying in french "entretien req" which means "need service" it appears right after reconnecting the battery and is always there where I turn on the engine.

What should have been carry on, and what about the idle, is there something to do there too?

Here's the relevant section on battery disconnect/reconnect from the Workshop Manual:

( click on the images to enlarge them )

I'm surprised there are no further procedures detailed in the XK/XKR Manual as earlier Jaguar models have a number of 'learned' pre-sets to be reset following a battery disconnect.

Wow! lots to do after disconnecting the battery. Driving at constant speeds would be hard to do on certain parts of Maui! LOL Like 70mph for 3 mins through Lahaina town! Da tourist would be running for cover.

When I had my 2011 XKR 175 I had the battery disconnected for about a month during the winter. I reconnected the battery in the Spring with no problem. Everything took a while to fall into place. Within 10 minutes everything was back to normal.

Thank you GGG and DGL, I red about he service req, or entretien req, normally it is followed but a number of km/miles from 3500 to 0 km/miles, plus it popped up right after the disconnection, but mine showed up straight as required, last service was at 10k I shall be good for another 5k but I am going there today to pick up my battery charger and will see with them. Will do the driving procedure today. They are saying the mileage for service is pre set but indeed, the car will adjust it depending of the usage and driving conditions etc...but I am surprised it should start to show how many miles until next service and then ask you to go for service, but I got this last warning straight. Don't know where i red pulling the negative black? plugs was right, on this procedure it tells something else, I did have sparks while reconnecting it and some of the car options were on and running, I hope I did not damaged anything but due to the hurry from the alarm, I shall have remember to plug that remote into the console...I keep writing it down for others.

Sorry it is in french , could not find the USA pages, it said , it calculates the mileage with a motor sytem who adjust depending of the driving and conditions. it evaluates itself when is the time for a new service.

"Le décompte du kilométrage est contrôlé par un système de gestion du moteur et il s'ajuste automatiquement en fonction des conditions et du style de conduite afin d'évaluer précisément le moment où une visite d'entretien s'impose."

no doubts i will do an early oil change if needed but it's 400 euros here and i' ve done some repairs on the range lately..

The battery terminals should always be connected quickly and confidently to avoid sparking. The ignition should be off and therefore nothing running to avoid spikes to sensitive electronics.

The adjustment of service interval for driving style can't be a huge amount. Be interesting to know if even spirited drivers have found the interval reduced by more than 10%.

Graham, we decided to skip this message and erase it, I was 10k km from last service in that case it was much more than 10% earlier, since it happened after reconnecting the battery I will wait 6000 km. it will have been in my case like 35% or more earlier...I controlled the oil every week and added some. (it is supposed to be 16 000 km )

Here is the battery charger price was indeed 156 euros I did not understood well, well I got 15% off from them. I recommend it cause its small and simple to use.

This battery charger is made by CTEK, and just has the Jaguar logo on it, just as Porsche and BMW does and they sell it for a big price.

You can buy this charger on Amazon for $52.00 and it's actually better with more functions than this charger shown above. I use it on my 2009 XKR, and always have a fully charged battery, never a failure. It's a trickle charger that adjusts the voltage flow. Easy install....2 to 3 minutes.

Amazon.com: CTEK Multi US 3300 12-Volt Smart Battery Charger: Automotive Amazon.com: CTEK Multi US 3300 12-Volt Smart Battery Charger: Automotive

I have suggested this charger several times in this forum. Those who have made the purchase seem well pleased with the suggestion.

Richzak, I understand and you are right, I saved a bunch of money with them on 5 occasions (gift, offers, parts changed) so sometimes I am not looking at it, and I am glad to pay full price.

Hmmm - I see the start of a pattern here.

I had a battery issue when I first got my car, and sent it to a local service centre to get it fixed with a deep discharge and recharge. They then told me that the service light had come on, and they refused to turn it off without doing a service. I had to contact the dealer that sold me the car and get them to confirm that a service had just been done before the service centre would clear the service light.

So, it appears that leaving the car without a battery for a period of time can screw up the service interval calculator. Probably not always, but sometimes. Worth knowing...
