Default wheel bearings woes

Hello gentlemen, seems like I'm hearing the "angry bearing" sound form the rear passenger wheel. I noticed my MPG has decreased to 15 mpg. I this a project one can do on own or need to be taken to a shop? Thank you. 2009 XK with approx 65k miles. Not driven hard at all.

Got 4 bearings on the way at the moment, hearing the same thing. Not sure what the job entails quite yet, but I will be following this post! Will update if I finish before anything on here happens.

So the guy in the video (watched pt 1 and 2) bought a new hub + bearing assembly - he did not remove the bearing from the old hub and reuse it. I am trying to find something online on whether or not you can just bolt a new bearing into place on the old hub or if you need to have some special tool like a press. If the bearing can just slip/bolt onto the old hub, this job will be cake.

You definitely need a press for the wheel bearings on the X100 unless you replace the complete hub assembly. I would expect that the X150 will be the same.

I ordered a new hub assembly with bearings. Pressing out the bearing on the hub seems like a shop job and NOT a DIY…

Are you positive it is the wheel bearing and not a differential side bearing or pinion bearing?

Im following the KISS method and OCCUMS razor. The sound is coming from the rear wheels, I distinctly hear it louder when driving on FWY next to center divider. Axle/Knuckle bearing seems to be the culprit to me. If the noise continues, I will have to re evaluate the situation.

I asked because I've had to replace the differentials in both mine. It's not uncommon. If the noise increases under acceleration/deceleration, it's the pinion bearing. If it increases when turning one direction or the other, it could be wheel bearings or differential side carrier bearings. Jaguar had a TSB about this and the diffs were replaced on some cars prior to the e-diffs in 2010.

Best to get the car on a lift and if the traction control will allow, with the rear wheels turning, listen to the wheel bearings and diff with a mechanic's stethoscope.

It's very difficult sometimes to separate bearing noise from tire noise. And noise increasing driving near the center divider makes me think tire unless the center divider is a concrete wall and reflecting the sound of a wheel bearing going.

I agree with KISS, but in my case I've never had a rear wheel bearing go out on my Jaguars, but 2 diffs.

Trying to help, not make things more difficult.

The center FWY dividers are indeed concrete. Fingers crossed its wheel bearing noise reflecting back to the drivers seat. I have not paid attention if the noise increases while turning or not. I will keep an ear out. Thank you so much for your input

Murphy’s Law strikes! Hub assembly doesn’t seem to fit. Splines do not slide in… very tight fit, even with weighted hammer/mallet. Fudge!

I've been paying close attention to the beaing type noise. It seems that when I brake it gets louder and when I turn to the right. Any ideas?
