Default Will Toddler and baby seats fit in the back of an XK

I'm considering buying an Xk and trying to convince the wife. We have a 6 month old and a toddler. Does anyone know if child seats/baby seats can be fitted in the back with both the driver and passengers in the car.

Any help would be greatly received.

John

Not a chance. With either front seat in any near-comfortable position, the BACK of the FRONT seat is within a few inches of the Front of the Back seat Bottom. The back seat bottoms are only 14 inches back-to-front. A super-mini car seat MAY work for a baby, but a toddler with a booster-type seat will have his legs bent against the front seat back. Without a booster, there is no room whatsoever for anything.
These "back seats" are only glorified storage areas, not fit for ANY size human.

Yes, sorry John but I think you are out of luck. Even the XF isnt ideal for young kids because the back window line is so high that they cant see over it, but other than that it is pretty good. And while it isnt as pretty as the XK, it is a lovely car and very striking. I had 2, the first when my youngest was about 9.

My wife needed to use her car the other day so my car became the family wagon. As you can see, although headroom is limited you can fit humans in the back.

I am around 5'10" and the other two boys are 5'10" and 5'11" and my daughter is probably around 5'8".

We certainly wouldn't travel long distances like that although a convertible wouldn't have the headroom issue so would be more usable.

My kids ride in the back regularly aged 7 and 9 and I'm 5'11. We've been on multi hour drives with the top down and no complaints. Not so sure about the car seat question though.

So I see upper bodies in the back seat. Do they have legs? I experimented with putting someone behind the driver and had to put the seat within 8" of the steering wheel. At least in my previous XK8 the back seat was flat.

I did put their approximate heights in but yes they have legs

My daughter recently discovered that if she angles her knees towards the centre of the car rather than rely on the cutout in the seat back she has a lot more room.

I have only had 4 up twice but often have three up.

"Long Distances" must mean to the end of the driveway. Also, I can't see ANY time in the back unless bound and gagged.

I'm 6'-1" and the Driver Seat is at my setting. I can't fit in the back seat even with the seat flopped forward.

No, sorry, unless the driver is smashed all the way against the steering wheel and 4'-3", a regular sized human WITH LEGS cannot fit in the back seat, again with the seat flopped forward.... not a possibility of pushing it upright.

My size 11s tucked toe-down, and it's agonizing. Again with the seat back flopped forward.

NO HUMAN can fit in the back facing forward! . .

We don't tend to do it for more than 15 minutes but, as you can see from my photo, it works for us.

As mentioned though, my daughter finds she has a lot more space if she has her legs at 45 degrees towards the centre of the car rather than jammed in to the back of the front seat. It also takes a little co-operation from whoever is in the front to be considerate.

I guess as a teenager I would have done anything to ride in a Jaguar including turning myself into a pretzel to sit in the back seat!!!

I got a ticket back in 1965 (I think) for having 4 in the front of my 63 Corvette convertible. I think I could sit sideways in the back of mine but can't do looking forward.

I saw a girl fit in a suitcase on tv ( Blacklist ) the other night. Problem is there is only room for one suitcase in the back seat , unless you put the other child in the trunk.
Solution. install my seat deleat. or get a dog. lol

Bernie,

Reminds me of the time years ago when Bill Clinton was leaving the airport with a puppy. He was met by a reporter who remarked "nice puppy", and POTUS replied, "Yeah, I got him for Hillary." Whereupon the reporter said, "Nice trade!"

Stuart

p.s. An old joke that still gets laughs!

I showed my 9 year old daughter this thread and while laughing profusely at the pics of a full grown man trying to fit in her seat, she did take offence to not being considered human as she is comfortably able to sit in the seat behind me (I'm 5'11).

Let's not forget the OP was asking about toddlers and baby seats not guys with size 11 shoes! Lol.

And a lil extra girth.... Lol

I feel him seriously the back seat is not for adults...

Look on the bright side the XK has more room in the rear than a Lexus SC430

A toddler will definitely fit. My son is almost 4 (42lbs) and tall for his age. I purchased a Cosco (sp) booster seat at Target and it fits perfectly into the seat. With the booster seat, the factory seat belt fits correctly. More importantly, the front passenger seat only needs to be moved 5 to 6 inches forward to give him all the room he needs to be comfortable.
