Default Will an XKR smoke an Aston Martin V8 Vantage?

There's a guy who apparently lives near me who has a V8 Vantage GT. I've run across him several times in the last month. And every time he sees my XKR, he decides to downshift and go racing past me. That got me to wondering if his car is actually faster than mine? So, I went online to do some research and based on road test results from a few different sources, it seems like an XKR is faster both zero to 60 and in a quarter mile. I was surprised and wonder if anyone has an experience vs a Vantage GT?

More than smoke.
My friend has one he pulled up next to me and floored it, despite getting a late start, I ran away from him.
Start at the 4min mark

Even a 4.2 XKR will pull away from a V8 Vantage, the 5.0 XKR smashes it.

Depends which V8 Vantage you are comparing it to. The early ones were 4.3 litre cars with a 0-60 of 4.9 secs. The 09 MY on have a 4.7 litre engine with a 0-60 of 4.7 secs.

Having said that, I test drove a 4.7 litre Vantage recently and felt that the pickup and acceleration in my 07 XKR was quicker although, as you know, mine has had a few tweaks along the way

chazaroo,
Let him downshift all he wants, unless he's "played" with his engine a bit, the only view he'll have of your 5.0L XKR will be of your tailights! His car will sound glorious, but you'll not be able to hear it because he'll be so far behind.

I believe the Vantage will out handle and perform better on a twisty road or track, but in a straight line, the 5.0 XKR has an additional 60 hp. It's a different visceral experience in the Vantage that is more than the spec's on paper.

I watched it but it didn't actually answer the question because the car in the video was an XKRS not XKR.

He truly had a way of pointing out that which is important.
As he did in that video, on both cars no less.
He loved the XKR. And lived with one for a long time.
Not hard to do when you want a holistic solution.

There are umpteen cars better than mine in one virtue or the other, including the Ftype, but none that surpass it in all the virtues.

That last line sums up the XK/XKR experience about as well as it can be said.

Sutcliffe says " you dont have to be in a low gear in the XKR, in the Aston you need to be above 4000rpm. It doesnt matter what gear you are in, put your foot down and it goes, because of the torque, it monsters the Aston"

I tried to post this earlier but apparently it didn't get in. I found a Car & Driver instrumented test of the 2010 XKR and estimated numbers for 2017 Vantage GT:
XKR: Zero to 60 in 4:0 seconds
Vantage GT: 4.2-4.4 seconds
XKR:Zero to 100 in 8.8 second
Vantage GT 10.1 -10.4 seconds
XKR Standing quarter mile: 12.3 seconds
Vanatge GT Standing quarter mile: 12.6 -12.8 seconds

In fairness, you should probably also put a range on the XKR 0-60 time since the official number from Jaguar is 4.6 sec.

Driving skills are a bigger factor than published numbers.
As seen here with the older less capable engine

The Audi driver was also apparently checking his email when the light turned green.

True but the Car & Driver test was instrumented , which I think means it's more scientific and that they stand behind the numbers.
