Default Windshield replacement

I need a new windshield (aka windscreen) on my 2007 XK

Can someone please share information on costs and options. First of course is the full whack Pilkington glass with heating elements (and rain sensior?)

Some talk about installing aftermarket winsdhields, poetntially without heating element (I dont really care about a heated windshield). But then will I have an alarm on for the heater not working? Can the alarm be disabled or bypassed?

I am currently in canada but shortly down in the US for the winter. So if anyone can share US costs then please do - i suspect it will be cheaper in the US.

I have been quoted $1015 Canadian (which is just under $1000 US right now) for an aftermarket with full heating element etc.

Surely your insurance will cover the replacement, minus your deductable, of course. Or, are your insurance policies different up north of the border?

I had mine replaced under warranty on my 07 XK. I don't still have the bill but I'm pretty sure it about $900.00 for the factory windshield from the dealer.

Anybody has updates on this? I am in for a new windshield pretty soon myself. Nothing major, to many small spots (especially against the sun) that bug me.

Any ideas on cost? OEM vs. Other? What to look out for?

Thanks!

I was quoted $1,250 for the glass (non OEM) and full install. Just the OEM glass was 1,700 US here at the dealer.

Right now, i would go OEM only....

Mine got an aftermarket replacement last March. I'm ready to go back to the shop and have it replaced again as it is now showing a sort of "crackling" surface effect. Very annoying driving into sunlight. I have thought about taking glass polishing compound to it but really don't think I should have to on glass less than 10 months old.
Gotta get back over to Lynnwood soon... Grrrrrr
