Are we talking a clear protective wrap or a full 3M vinyl car wrap? Some clear protective wraps have UV protection but not all. As with everything it depends on the installer. i saw terrible wrap work. I saw a Hummer wrapped in matte black on West Coast customs and they could not get the film to stick in some creases. They called the manufacturer, they actually injected crazy glue through the film and glued it to the car .... not what i want on my car.

I see wrap jobs at the shop that works on my car and although they do a good job it just looks horrible to me. Maybe I'm just old and don't get it.

Now the bras yeah those are worth it, I have removable 3M for my Bumper/hood and everything under the belt-line for track days.

Never saw one that looks impressive and they do not have a nice touch to them. That being said, I'm sure there are ones that look great, but not in Boston.

Default wrap

I'll offer, I was at a Sunday Cars & Coffee gig (Church of the Holy Donut- Burtonsville, MD) and was talking to a GTR owner with a "wrapped" car. It was flawless. I'm interested in getting the nose, hood, and rockers done on my 08 when I get it and the company he mentioned is just across town. His was a 3m product.
There was nary a flaw....

We use a local guy for the clear bra's on the collision repairs we do. It looks great 99% of the time and does last. Here in AZ the biggest issue is the clear 3M will yellow after a couple years in the 100+ AZ sun though. As far as the wraps go, I have seen both good and bad ones, honestly you get what you pay for. While there not all my cup of tea (Chrome BMW 3 series YUK, but Blue Chrome BMW 5 series COOL) they can be kinda cool. I've thought about wrapping my Black Range Rover in White just for a change, but at almost 4K for the good company to do it Im just "eh" about doing it. It is cheaper then repainting though.

I had my full front end and rockers wrapped in clear about 2 years ago, you can barely see it as they rolled most seams around the edges of the body panels.

I've had a few nicks in the plastic, that appear to have saved the paint while having gotten two noticeable chips in two spots I hadn't wrapped....

I'm very impressed with the work done by the installer and am still happy with the results, but the car is garaged when not driven, and I tend to detail it fairly regularly.

Default to wrap, or not to wrap?

The way I see it, it gets down to each of our driving frequencies, road conditions, extreme vs. mild weather areas and..... in the end, the quality of the product and shop doing the installation.
My 08, like the XJR, will not be a daily driver as I have other fun stuff to drive. Maryland does not have the extreme heat of the SW states, but, does have it's share of bad roads and projectiles waiting in the wings. Heck, I had clear "Plastic-Dip" in mind for the lower quarters, until I saw this 3M stuff!
The cost, yeah it's a bit "spendy" for a whole car, however, I don't plan on a full monty, just, those more delicate sensitive areas.......
Happy Motoring

well got a price.. 10.000AED which is ~ 2700USD.. a bit too expensive for the fun factor.. given the wrap will only last 2 years in our climate.. (read 40+ up to 50 Celsius).. I drive my car regularly.. given the 34.000km's I put on it in 1.5 years.. but as the first5 years it did only 9000km.. (and was stored inside) the paint now still looks very good..

If you find an installer that is good and your weather is so harsh than $2,700 is indeed not expensive. A good full wrap here in the US costs more, especially if they remove all the trim and don't just cut around it and include the door jams. It is still less than a full paint job. I think here in the US 3M wrap is supposed to last for up to 5 years.
