Default XK won't start

2007 XK

Wife called me on Saturday and said the car wouldn't start. We've had no problems leading up to Saturday. I figured the battery died and it was time to get a new one. I tried when I got home and the light went crazy turning on and off and then I couldn't even get them to turn off. We've only had the car for 1.5 months so I'm not sure how old most of the stuff like that are on it. So today I run to Autozone to get the battery tested. They charge it and say everything on it looks good and that I may want to check the alternator. With the battery fully charged I head home, put the battery in and the car still won't start. All the lights and everything come on, radio, a/c but won't even try to start. Is there some kind of reset I need to do after putting the battery back in?

If the brakes have been pumped at all, you may need to stand on the brake peddle in order to trigger the ignition.

Like Vince Vaughn said in Swingers "KJ07xk, you're so money and you don't even know it." Thanks bud, that's what it was. Now I have to figure out why the battery drained.

robbing,

See this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lights-106453/ Software update? See post #3. Try pressing the START button BEFORE you step on the brake pedal. See post ##5 and 6.

Battery drain could be from not locking your XK when you park in your garage, or from infrequent use. It is prudent to always keep it on a battery maintainer; many Forum members like the CTEK brand. See these threads: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lation-107738/ and https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lay-ups-73471/

I took my battery in on my 07 xkr when I purchased it because of odd things taking place. It still had the factory battery which was 7 years old at the time. They indicated the battery tested fine under load. It was junk. Replaced, strapped a trickle charger to the side of the battery, plug it in everyday, lock doors everyday and never looked back.

Silly question but have you locked the car and left it for a few minutes then unlocked it again? When I had my first XF I had a very embarrassing episode when I couldnt start it, and the callout guy just locked it then unlocked it and it started fine.

A few times in my ownership the car wouldn't start, unlock or do something it should... I'd just walk away, lock the car and try again in a few minutes. Always worked after that.

CTEK is a must for any fancier car IMO.

Stuart, my wife and I drive the Jag daily so it gets used a lot. But, I don't lock the car when it's in the garage. Actually I usually leave the key in it and unlocked. Will locking it help?

If you leave the fob in the car without locking it, it will never go to sleep as it thinks something is going to happen. This leads to battery drain.

Remove the key and lock it, as you drive regularly you should not have any problems after that.

Awesome, I really appreciate the help. I just drove it this morning for about 60 miles and it's fine. Started up 3 different times with no problems.

Always lock your cars for electronic reasons, inside your garage or not.

Robbing:

Order the CTEK MUS 4.3 Multi Step Charger from Amazon. The price is great @ $63.12. The kit has everything you need to keep your XK fully charged all the time. I own a 2009 XKR, and the car is ALWAYS connected to the CTEK when not driven, whether it's one day of rest or 3 weeks of rest. The CTEK MUS 4.3 multi charger is an 8 step charger that can be connected directly to the battery. You might want to consider the CTEK Comfort Extension which provides an additional 8' feet of cord.

Amazon.com: CTEK (56-864) MUS 4.3 12 Volt Fully Automatic 8 Step Battery Charger: Automotive Amazon.com: CTEK (56-864) MUS 4.3 12 Volt Fully Automatic 8 Step Battery Charger: Automotive

Amazon.com: CTEK (56-304) Comfort Connect Extension Cable: Automotive Amazon.com: CTEK (56-304) Comfort Connect Extension Cable: Automotive

This will help keep your battery 100%

Connecting the CTEK the way I have the plug in the images below, you never have to open the trunk lid to make a connection.

Click on the image once to expand then click again for full screen image.

+ 1 on the CTEK MUS 4.3 from Amazon. That was the first thing I bought after I got my CPO 2013 XJ in October 2014 and I haven't had any electrical gremlins. I also am pleased with the BatteryMINDer brand smartcharger that I keep on my XKR. Avoid the Battery Tender brand - see the negative reviews on Amazon.

Keeping your Jaguar's battery fully charged with a quality battery maintainer is inexpensive preventive medicine against electrical gremlins.

I just had this problem this morning while trying to go to work,
I tried to step on the brake pedal with two feet, but still could not trigger the start.
What worked was unhooking the battery for about a minute then reconnecting it.

all is well now

Taro, although I normally push the brake then hit start, if there is ever a problem try reversing it.

Press start, then push brake.
