I regularly perhaps annoyingly so, try to bribe my wife with a 2CV as a gift if she will move to the foothills of Bordeaux. I sense a weakening but to date no sale. I thought for sure the little gem parked on Rue Du Dragon would have
sealed the deal, but she's of an independent mind not easily swayed by trinkets, even 2CV's. One day...

It puts the beetle to shame on multiple levels.
While not a single person actually ever received a Beetle, despite the entire nation putting a deposit down, the 2CV built many nations; especially France.
A poor farmer could afford it, but not just to drive to church on sunday, it was a tractor, a pickup, it could go where few cars could.
A truck, a suv, sedan, convertible, 65 mpg in 1950!! and everyone could afford. I am desperately looking for a modern car that fits that bill.
Design masterpiece.

Both the 2CV and Bug were interrupted by the war.
Both started design pre-war, and only entered production post war.

The Bug was designed for paved roads, a great car, and sold magnificently worldwide.
The 2CV is the one I'd rather have; but both cars are classics, both achieved great things.

The bug made a significant frame advancement from contemporary production cars.
It has influenced many cars down the road that draw from its innovations.

The 2CV is like Yoda leaning on a cane. True worth is shown when the path is roughest.
If you haven't seen video of a 2CV cornering or driving over undulations, you have missed out on something.

Back to the main subject, the 2CV is in part a classic because it has been easy for owners to keep them running.
Had it been troublesome, who would want to have owned them for seventy years or more?

Well kept examples will be brought down by the not so well kept examples.
People will want an above market car at below market price.
This will keep the prices down unless all the below market cars get scrapped; or most of the cars are well cared for.

Back to the main subject, the 2CV is in part a classic because.......
There was nothing unique about the bug, they were even successfully sued by Tatra for infringement. Heinkel Scooter Project: The Tatra versus Volkswagen lawsuit
But the reason its no longer made is its useless. Who needs just a limited space car these days?
And why the XK replacement wont happen...

The 2CV on the other hand; A suv, convertible, truck, beautiful 4 seater, that cost $15 grand in today's money- and will last a lifetime, every household needs one of those.
If you lived in a small town in France, Greece or Italy, you dont need anything else, even today.
