Hi to all - just joined this forum and looking forward to some interesting times. Drove my newly acquired 2001 XKR to a specialist garage to hear what he will say about the RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE issue. Got this car, which seems to be in good shape otherwise, from a country dealer where it sat for months due to that message scaring off allcomers. Take a chance! Very rare car here in South Africa. Never seen one but fell for it as soon as I saw it.
Strange, that message! My X type yesterday told me the same thing after years of faultless running - CRUISING NOT AVAILABLE. That's what brought me to this interesting site
Even stranger - my Land Rover Defender 2011 also developed what I think is a VCV valve problem on the 300km drive back from viewing the XKR.
And for number 4 I have an electric Series 2 Land Rover which I converted to electric with a Curtis controller running a 15 kW AC motor. This just would not go one morning also after two year good service as a yard runabout. This one is a bit more discreet in its messaging - just a spanner image shows up.
Fast running out of wheels!
So, now to get them all running. So good to have things to do!

You would do much better in the X100 XK/XKR section for the 1997-2006 model year forum. You accidentally entered the X150 2007-2015 forum.
Happens all the time.

Thanks. Will try to move it to the X100 forum. Good news - my X type now performs perfectly again. I was reluctant to drive it with its real lack of performance but had to try it again. And it works. I think I know what happened. I cleaned the engine with degreaseer and a little water from a hose - the next morning the troubles started. That was a week or two ago. Since then the weather has been warm and the electronics have dried out. Moral of the story - don't use water carelessly around Jaguar engine management systems.

As for the XKR it looks like a EGR concertina hose and oxygen sensors on the catalytics are the cause of the Restricted Performance warning. So its off with the supercharger and a hunt for the replacement parts. The local agents here say 'no chance'.

Old and worn catalytic converters are a thing, mine has one that still flows great, but "efficiency" below tolerance. SO, a rebuilt cat in my future.

I pick it up in Joburg on Monday can’t sleep lol. Seen a lot on YouTube about the back end sliding. I don’t think I will get to that point but we’ll see!
