Angry XKR-S delivered this morning, wrecked!

Almost, but not really. My extremely understanding and generous fiancee and I found a 2013 XKR-S in Marin while we were on our road trip back from San Diego last week, made a deal, and had it trucked to our home in Oregon. It arrived at about 8:30 this morning and was unloaded from the truck. I was relieved to find that it cleared the sidewalk hump at the end of our driveway, where the undercarriage of my NA Miata and BMW 2002, both lowered, scrape. My fiancee isn't comfortable with my typical hooning, so I first took her for an easy drive and stops at a local cafe and bakery.

The cafe was great. The bakery stop, about 90 minutes after delivery, did not go well. I backed into a parallel parking space along the curb (or kerb), stopped the car, and looked in the side view mirror to see if it was safe to open the door. It was not. A retirement home van driver had left his wheelchair access doors open, which I saw approaching the mirror at 25mph, and BAM!

Not good.

Van driver and door.

I got the insurance info, picked up the pieces, dropped my fiancee off, and went to my local shop to get an estimate for a new mirror assembly. The painted front cover actually snapped back in place, as did the broken mirror. No other body damage, it could have been much worse.

So, **** it, I went for drive, 200 miles of my local canyon roads, lots of 3rd gear twisties. The car is an absolute beast, as many of you know. I stopped a few spots and took her first glam shots.

Did I say it was loud? Yes, it is. the one mod that I'm aware of is a deleted muffler with Akrapovic tips. Not sure if it's custom or an available item. Probably too loud, I'll be looking for a stock exhaust or to add a pair of mufflers.

Tomorrow we'll get 1/2" of rain, so the Jag will stay in the garage. Fortunately, we've also got it's all-weather brother, a 2011 Full Fat Range Rover, to use in the winter. I haven't stopped laughing from the drive and I can't wait to get it out again!

You're a better man than I am. My Viking ancestry shows itself in situations like that (smote everyone and everything!). But ... the car is fixable and absolutely beautiful. Enjoy. And +1 on that exhaust.

Thanks! I don't know what the exhaust is, but it is "ARREST ME NOW!" loud. Way louder than any sportbike I've ridden, but actually not too bad (IMO) around town at low idle, short shifting, and minimum throttle. I love the sound and try to only get after it on rural twisties, but I still can't fly under the radar and make repeat passes if there's anyone that can see me.

Merely a flesh wound... I nearly got squished by a semi this morning while trying to find an eye doc. Good on you for not getting too upset. Poop happens.

Interesting that your car has the yellow shocks. I ran mine without the muffler and it sounded like the average '78 Chevy pickup without exhaust. Bad... I wouldn't look for a stock box, they are too quiet. I built one for mine, love the tone and sound levels.

I pretty sure the xhaust system you presently have on your XKR-S is not stock and did not come with your vehicle. I would suggest you install a set of manaflow mufflers. Will sound low and mellow a beautiful sound, and not offensive. I have had that set up on several Jags in the past.

i just purchased aN Italian Red XKR-S 2012 looks just like yours. Only had it a few days.

Have a a good day.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry about your first issue.

I got mine and it was showroom new, even though it was a 10-year old car. I had it maybe 2 months when I got rear-ended.

But it is all fixed now and I am enjoying it very much.

If I were to replace the exhaust, I would go with Quicksilver, Velocity, or Spires. All known for British manufacture for British car applications.

It's a pity that you didn't get the original rear muffler, because...

1. They are different to the standard XKR ones
2. They are hard to find 2nd hand
3. They cost a fortune new!

Here's a 2nd hand one https://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-2015-J...5/263236698479

Good luck with yours! Do you know which Magnaflows you've used? I wouldn't even be able to pass the sound check at the track here with mine as it is now..

That's crazy, but it looks like they're about $3,600 new.

Are these different than most? All I've read is that the XKR-S is set up stiffer than the XKR. I've definitely had much stiffer cars with H&R springs and Bilstein shocks. This has a pretty good compromise between ride comfort and handling, I think.
