XK150 auto/starter problem
HI
I have a 1957 XK150 auto. For some reason the starter button will not kick in when the gearbox is in park. It previously worked OK! Battery is ok as are battery terminals and connections to starter button. Any suggestions where I start fault finding?
Thanks!

First measure if there is 12V on the starter switch, and 12V on the other wire when switch is pushed in.
Next there is a switch under the dash, that is connected to the gear lever.
This enables you to start in P and N.
From here on there is 12v going to the starter relay under the hood.

Thanks for this. My thinking has led me to next check whether I am getting 12 v at the switch. I will work through what you suggest and let you know how I get on.
Thanks for your help

It sounds like the start inhibitor switch has either gone out of adjustment or has failed.
That switch stops you from starting in any position except in neutral (N) or park (P)

Thank you for this. After testing the voltage at various points and much head scratching I found the start inhibitor and fiddled a bit with it and hey presto I had action!
So relieved!!

You are welcome. I have encountered this start inhibitor switch problem many times in early MK1 and MK2 automatic sedans.
