Default XKR calipers on an XK8

Is it possible to swap the XKR Brembo's onto an XK8? I plan on doing the ls swap sometime within the year and being that I feel braking is a weak point on the XK8 as it is I would like to upgrade them before the ls is in

I was always under the impression that the XK8 calipers were the same as those on the XKR minus the fancy racy paint job. If they are different, then I don't see why it can't be done. I'm no expert though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I was under the impression that the XKR calipers are 4 piston calipers. I would assume with the size the caliper has to be more powerful than the XK8 especially being that an XKR with a 4.0 has 80 more hp and the 4.2 has 100 more over my 4.0

The XKR comes with Brembos standard. The upgrade is if they were painted red or come with cross drilled discs.

That was only on later XKRs early cars had standards looking brakes but the XKRs had bigger discs which used bigger carriers.

Yes you can fit brembos but u will have to tap the upright holes out to 14mm x 1.5 pitch if you wanted to use the correct bolts

Indeed that is correct but you can get away with 18s...... not all though..... some require a spacer

The Brembos became options on XKR's in 2001. then in 2003, they became standard.

I am unsure about what brake system I have on my 05 XKR (originally from Japan). I do not have cross-drilled disks and the calipers are painted silver with "Jaguar R" on them. I'm perfectly happy with them but when it comes time to replace the pads I want to look at aftermarket replacement options.

Can anyone help me positively identify the calliper type so I know what to ask for when it comes time to replace the pads?

Here's a photo.

You can also install Alcon calipers from a later XKR.

By shear coincidence , XKRacer fitted Brembo's to my 1998 XK8

A relatively straightforward job ................ Thanks Tony !!!!

Happy New Year to you ,

This is awesome! I'm so glad it can be accomplished. With the lack of aftermarket on these cars it gets boring but with the ls swaps becoming more popular it put a new spark in this car for me. My b6 s4's timing guides and cam adjusters broke and parts alone for the timing components are 4k plus you need to rent 3 tools from Audi and pull the motor to do the job. Needless to say I'm not doing that work I'm selling the car at auction and decided to give my xk8 another shot.

I don't think that is a bad price considering it even gives you the back plates, shame they don't have the rears also
