Recently replaced with premium battery after the old battery which i keep on a float charger died after an extended power outage after hurricane. After which the info readout indicates every error, I believe, it is capable of indicating.None of which would I consider accurate. Licked in park, but will start and drive fine if i go to neutral after 1st ignition pos, but if i go to park pos after started it will lock, in other words It starts, runs and drives perfectly. all gauges are pegged and odometer increases several thousand miles each drive cycle. P1638 is the engine code from my reader. Does this sound like the instrument cluster issue or a wiring/grounding issue? I am fairly handy with auto repair and somewhat know my way around a volt meter. I have checked all fuses excpt those in the luggage compartment fuse box.

 

Got the ZF HP26 trans? Could a bolt be loose/missing? Under car, side of trans, 2 8mm hex bolts hold the shift cable to the trans.

 

The 02 US version has a 5HP24.

 

The 02 NA version has the 5HP24.

 

Have you tried retracing your moves. Disconnect battery, allow systems to shut down and start again. Also ensure the battery is fully charged.
I believe the error code relates to CAN token missing, possibly just a hiccup related to your battery change.
