05 Unusual Window Problem
Hey guys I just bought my 2005 XK8 a few weeks ago and I am having some window problems. My drivers side window will not go up or down automatically when I open/close the door. I have tried resetting the window memory but it did not help. Anyone have any idea what else could be the problem? I have also noticed that the window will atleast go up when the door is shut, but it is very rare.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Just so I'm clear on the problem, you're saying that when you pull on the door handle the window doesn't drop down about half an inch like it's supposed to? Or does it drop down and then go right back up as soon as you release the handle?
Does the dashboard show that the driver's door is open when you open the door?
I'm asking these questions because there are two microswitches that control the window. One of them causes the window to drop when you pull on the handle, the other one causes the window to stay down until the door is closed again. You can tell if the second switch has malfunctioned because the dashboard will not give you the door ajar warning if the second microswitch is bad. If you are getting the door ajar warning but not getting the window to drop when you pull the handle, then it sounds like the first microswitch is bad. Or, it could be the window controller thingy (I forget what it's called, but it's the electronic box that controls the window operation).

Hmmm... that's weird. It could be that both microswitches are defective, or there might be a problem with the door control module. The DCM is back behind the speaker and it tells the window what to do. Since the window still goes up and down it seems less likely that the DCM is bad, but you never know.
The latch is a pain in the butt to replace, and it costs $750 from the dealer. I saw a used one on eBay for $150, but it is only for cars through the 02 model year. I'm not sure where that first microswitch I described is located. I don't think it's in the latch because I didn't see it when I had my latch out. But, It sounds like you need the second one (the one in the latch) replaced for sure ... unless it's the DCM.
Both doors have a DCM. I don't know if they are swappable. Another member will have to answer that question. If they are, then you could swap the two DCMs and see if the problem moves to the other door. If so, then you could just get a DCM from a junk yard. That would be the easiest fix. Or, if you don't carry passengers very often, you could just leave the DCMs swapped and not worry about it. But first we need to figure out if it's the microswitches or the DCM.
