Default 05 XKR Intermittent Start - B1595

Hello all,

I have an intermittent starting issue with my XKR. 55k miles, RHD, imported from Japan and in generally very good, clean condition.

The problem occurs intermittently, normally after a drive of any length, usually when attempting to restart the car within 15 mins (Like at a petrol station). Turn key to position II to be met with silence from fuel pump and wide variety of warning messages on screen: DSC System Fault, Engine Failsafe Mode, Restricted Performance, Low Brake Fluid and Gearbox Fault. Reading the codes produces many, mostly associated with no power/comms to modules. Turning the key off/on a few more times will eventually get the pump to prime and the car can be started, albeit in Restricted Performance due to P1637 & P1643 which when cleared resulting in no warning lights and no sign of any problem. The car will then drive with no issue until the next non-start.

I have found that turning the key to position 1 first, and then position 2, has drastically decreased the occurrence of the issue but not completely stopped it.

The car has been to Jaguar who read the codes and contacted a staff member at a different garage who has experience with X100s, he made an educated guess from the codes that the problem was either the Ignition Switch or Key Transponder Module. The code B1595 was present and he/they believed that this was directly linked to the intermittent starting issue and that all other codes present had no bearing upon ignition.

What do you guys think? Is the Key Transponder Module at fault or is this a fault with the ignition switch? I've been struggling to find anyone with a similar issue or any clear info on the code.

I would guess the ignition switch. A new one is not cheap, so I would confirm it by connecting a toggle switch between the Black/Pink and the White/Blue wire behind the ignition switch. Next time it fails to start the fuel pump, just turn on the toggle switch to bypass the ignition switch at position 2, if the fuel pump then starts you know that the ignition switch needs to be replaced.

When hi speed CAN is down the car will never start. It’s your job to figure out which node is crashing the network

Just a quick post to say that it was in fact the Ignition Switch was faulty/failing. Replaced a few thousand miles ago and no problems since.
