Default '06 XK8 front grill

The previous owner replaced the original front grill with an XKR grill, the grill is velcroid to the bumper at the top on both sides, which seems odd to me. the velcro is slipping and now the front right side is jutting out some, would really like to fix "correctly" but not sure how to tackle. some pics below so you can see what i am talking about. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

To judge from the rubber edge this is the type that fits "over " the hole from the front rather than from the inside .
I favour 4 black cable ties to replace the velcro

Question The Grill!!

This Grill doesn't seem to be damaged.....It's just installed incorrectly! It should be mounted to the inside not outside the opening.....I don't know where it came from but you need to contact the seller and determine how it was supposed to be mounted and what you need to install it correctly.....or "Rigg-it up" with something.....! Call that Guy in California that sells that stuff! Sorry! I can't remember his Company's name.....might be easier to just buy a new one with all the parts and toss what they've messed-up.................I think they are less than $250.00!

I'll have to admit, I kind'-a like it on the outside! But not enough....They've had to fill-in the ends with something in order to fill the hole that was left.......

Hey Billy you probably mean Chris at Mina Gallery. They are a couple of miles from my house.

Thanks for the input, ironically I was just looking on Mina Gallery’s website and I can get a mesh grill and parts for $130. I think that’s the route I’ll take and just install a new correctly. Based on what I’ve read should be a simple install w/o having to remove the front bumper.

Hmmmm, I can't decide if I truly prefer the grill or no grill look. My 1998 xk8 is "Open Nosed" and I think I like it that way. I'll be watching for new picture from you after you install the new grill from the inside of the opening. Perhaps a little inset will sell me on it. I'm no fan of Velcro. It reminds me of what someone once said,"If you view duct tape as a permanent investment, your probably a red neck". I don't know what the equivalent of red neck is in the UK..

Befor and after pics; the instructions and wood screws that came with the Grill from Mina were somewhat worthless., after breaking two of the screws i finally went to the hardware store and picked up some self tapping screws. What’s I didn’t realize on the bumperette, they were a combo of both plastic and metal≥. Regardless happy with how it turned out, no more velcro and should be a heck of a lot more permanent .

Very Nice clean looking installation! Sure beats the hell out of Velcro. And yes, I do like the look when installed from the inside(not that realy matters). I HATE GNOMES!!! I had a plasic seemingly squashed one attatched to the grill of my pickup truck. Just sold the truck but kept the gnome. Molly my xk8 has no grill, something to think about. Thanks for the update, nice job..

NOW!!--- That looks more like it! Also, you have added the Lover Cover. The Lower Cover is an addition that was offered by some of the Company's such as Mina Galleries......The original XKR's didn't come with this feature. I have used the two outer opens for Daytime Driving Lights!

I installed mine by making angle brackets painted black. The lower grill is very important to prevent stone damage to the condenser.

2005 Jaguar XKR Coupe - Onyx/Ivory 20" BBS "Montreal" Wheels ..... Philps DTRL installed in Lower Grill Opening rather than the Chrome Lower Grill
Here are the (3) Basic Convex Grills being used with the 2005-2006 Nose Piece....(1) Upper & Lower Grills in Chrome, (2) Upper & Lower Grills in Black & (3) Upper Grill in Chrome with DTRL in Lower Grill area...

Looks great. Is the DTRL insert a panel? It looks solid in the photo. Who sells them? I like the side skirts on my 06 but mixed feelings about the restyled front end.

Just checked on that lower cover. Mina only shows mesh inserts.

CA Jag,

The upper and Lower Grill pieces come separately from Mina....If your Jag has the convex upper Grill and someone has put in one of the bottom Grills, it can be removed and the Lights will fit into the lower outer grill Opening! My 2005 did not have a lower grill as it was not offered by Jaguar.

Go to either Osram or Philps Websites and you will see what they offer as DTRL's! The cost about $80.00 now....Philips offered a set last year like mine, which are all in one, whereas now they appear to have 6 to 8 Bulbs inside them....I Ilike the single bulb idea, personally! They fit into the outer Opening of the Lower Grill! ....

Maybe I'm missing it. Mina only shows mesh inserts for upper/lower grills.

Smile This is my 2000th post on the forum!

CA Jag,

The 2004 - 2006 XKR's all came with Convex Mesh Grills but NO Lower Mesh Grill....You have to order the Lower Mesh Grill from someone like Mina Gallery's....I've never seen one here in Houston....The Front Nose Piece comes with the Convex Mesh Grill in the Top Opening but the Bottom Opening is divided into 4 individual Openings....If you wanted a Mesh Grill Cover for that Area, you could order one from Mina Gallery's and possibly some other Company like them!

My DTRL are made by Philips and they fit just fine in the Lower Outside Openings and are mounted to the Nose Piece itself with Screws......Wiring directions come with the Lights. They come on when you put the Key into the Ignition and Go off when removed! They Dim automatically when you turn on the Headlight's...

Philips and Osham both offer similar products as they both have the same owners......My Lights were installed back in about 2020 and are still working fine.....

OH! HAPPY DAY! Lots of Happy Jaguar Days since I bought my first 1998 XK8 Coupe (Topaz with Silver "Revolvers") - (Then came the 2000 XKR Coupe, Black with Silver "Double-'8's") - (.and then the 2003 XKR Coupe with 20" BBS Montreal's).....(and now the current Onyx and Ivory 2005 XKR with "BBS Montreal's" ! )

Lot's of Fun!

Billy Clyde @ Cinco Ranch
