Default 10 posts more important than ruining your new to you Jaguar.

Seems silly that posting is more important than screwing something up that you can’t access. Over torqued 3 bolt last night sheering them, they are hollow. Following some guide off the internet instead of being allowed to use your information to fix my Jaguar. O’well I guess is the attitude.

I don't understand your problem. You saying you have to have ten posts to ask a question?

I always get my technical data from random Internet sources. I eschew things like the factory service manuals, readily available for free or very low cost, on that same Internet.

I also struggle to think of anything that I've read on the internet that I've not had to correct.

(Is this what this thread is about?)

My guess is that the guy was attempting to PM someone to ask questions but could not do so due to not having enough posts yet. Of course, he could have just typed his questions into a new thread but it appears he did not think of that....

As per the rules in the NEW MEMBER section - link as follows: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-up%2A-241802/

there is a qualifying period as below. It doesn't take much to get up to 10 posts, simply welcome one or two or reply to those who extended the courtesy to welcome you.

Second - the BASICS
Please note the following:
There is a "qualifying period" each newly registered member must complete before gaining access to:
  • server-hosted LINKS to download attachments in posts
  • viewing IMAGES
  • posting advertisements in MARKETPLACE
  • sending a PERSONAL MESSAGE to another member (however, new members can PM a Moderator before the qualifying period elapses)
  • the member PHOTO GALLERY
  • configuring your forum GARAGE
The qualifying period is a spam-reducing tactic that has proved extremely successful. This 'period' includes a preset number of days (3) that you must be active, and a minimum post count (10). Once these are reached, you will automatically have full forum access. The time and post count requirements are trivial to a genuine new member but a serious deterrent to spammers.

Cheers
Steve

That made me chuckle. I always start an angry thread on a forum after I have sheered off the first bolt, rather than the last.

Seems to be today's world, sadly.

Go on then, I'll start you off. The bolts through the banjo* couplings on the rear brake flexibles.

* I call them banjos, although the Jag ones are rectangular.

with a little practice one can usually tell just by the “heft” of a bolt if it’s hollow.

As a new member working my way through the probationary period, I can testify that there is wealth of very beneficial information here, and I am grateful to all of you for it.

Some people just need to be angry about everything.

Maybe we are all a bit touchy because of this week’s latest installment of the long-running New Jaguar Certifiable Clown Show? Deep breath…. Yes indeed, this forum is wonderfully helpful to those of us still wrenching on The Old Ones.

Default Learned how to use a torque wrench the hard way.

You’ll laugh even more. No one guessed it yet. Backyard mechanic like I mentioned. I torqued it in foot pounds when It was supposed to be the other lesser setting on my torque wrench. (Inch pounds).

Default Best way to extract a bolt out of aluminum that sheered.

Any thoughts on extracting a broken bolt out of aluminum?

Jmitch, not many would admit to that mistake, and then todays NM settings to help you get it wrong are always interesting.
Hang in there and we will try and solve most of the problems that come up, notice I didn't say all. It certainly is learning process.
Some of the things I read are like trying to understand Egyptian Hieroglyphic, way over my head at first, but better now, hang in there.
OH. do a UTube on getting the broken studs out, lots of ways and hope one will work for you.
