Default 1999 xk8 radio amp.

I'm not sure which factory sound system this car has. All the radio controls work, the speakers are set in the neutral middle range but no sound. There is no fuse in location 18 in the trunk or pins to take a fuse. The picture shows a long flat box on top of the cd player anyone know what it is?
is the the amp on top of cd player?
is the the amp on top of cd player?

The "long flat" box atop the CD changer is the amp. If you're getting sound from the dash speakers then the door speakers are probably blown. In my case I got the wiring diagram, disconnected the amp, figured out which wires when to the speakers, and did a continuity test. I found the PO had managed to blow both door speakers and both tweeters. SMH.

IIRC, the "premium" sound system has tweeters in the front corners of the windows. I think the "base" system did not, but others here know more.

System with amp. is the 'premium' and will have the door 'sail' tweeters.

No sound at all? Does the antenna operate?

Check F9 (10A) in the trunk fusebox.

The early cars had HARMON CARDON Premium Sound and the later cars had ALPINE.

The manufacturer will be written on the case.
The X308 will have the same parts so you have more choices of cars to get salvage parts from.

antenna does operate unless I pull F9 in the trunk. No sound at all. I found a post in the archives that says fuse 18 in trunk is 30 amp and powers the amplifier. I have no fuse or pins for one in that location.

You need to download the electrical guide and find all the correct info.
You are looking for S99_SED.pdf

Thanks that's what I needed to know. Fuse 12, 15 amp in trunk powers amplifier. How are you doing? Stroke recovery progressing I hope.

The diagram I found showed #9 10amp is the antenna, pulled the fuse and antenna does not work. #12 15amp for the amplifier unfortunately not blown

?
The 99 EG shows F12 as a 20A for the convertible RH quarterlight lift/drop relays.

F9 (10A) feeds the antenna (58) and the amplifier (59 & 60):
