Hello,
I recently refilled the windshield washer fluid reservoir on my "new" XK8 for the first time, and a lot of it seemed to leak out. I can't really see it being filled, due to its remote neck, but do I have a hole in it, or is there an overflow tube where it leaked out? I assume I have a hole or crack in it. Thanks.
You have a leak. There is no overflow and fluid will be visible in the Filler Neck when full.
The only part visible without any dismantling is the Reservoir Filler Neck (item 10). Apart from a hole or split in the Filler Neck or Reservoir, there's several places a leak could occur and the LH wheelarch liner must be removed to access the Screenwash Reservoir (item 1).
The Reservoir Filler Neck (item 10) connects to the Washer Tube (item 2) and here is the first potential leakage location. The O-Ring (item 14) can fail.
The usual place for leaks is the Filler Tube Grommet (item 3). Your vehicle will have a Screenwash Pump (item 5) and, depending on specification, a Headlamp Washer Pump (item 8). Both of these are fitted to the Screenwash Reservoir with Grommets (items 4 an 9). Leaks can occur at either of these.
The observant will see the unrelated reason for examining this area on my 2001 XK8. The Upper Wishbone had at broken the front!

ouch !!!
was there an impact with a solid object to cause that freaky break ? What happened in the subsequent second ? Does the wheel / tire make contact with inner fender ?

That was the result of a pothole. The noise was like an explosion and remarkably the remaining arm of the wishbone supported the vehicle. The steering "kicked" but went back on course. Never seen one break before and hope I never do again.
From the position of the wishbone stub, it must have sheared at the top of the deflection. The fluid is where I'd sprayed release oil ready for dismantling.
One benefit - it was an easy disassembly of a fulcrum bolt!
The quickest way to find a leak is to remove the Fender Liner and the Washer Bottle....Fill it and let it set for a while....It will show you where the leak is.....There are so many Grommets it's hard to tell...............Honestly, this is the fastest way to fix it!
Thanks for the post. Finally got to looking at mine. It is leaking from the top filler on the inside of the wheel well. Don't think there's much I can do about it. Reservoir holds the fluid just fine, just leaks a little when you fill it. Thanks for all the info!
