Default 2001 xk8 alternator

hello everyone, i got my car back from the electric shop and they replaced the voltage regulator. no more dimming lights, but i'm concerned that my sound system has caused the problem. is there anyone who makes a nice aftermarket alternator for the xk8? i have a rockford fosgate 15001bd and from what i heard from them this amp puts out near 2000 watts of true power @ 1ohm. (currently at 2 ohm down to 800-1000watts) it is underrated. i paid a decent amount for this amp and newer models are expensive. i had this amp in my lexus running 4 pioneer champion 12's with no heating issue. now the amp at 2 ohms gets hot as hell. i have 2 jl audio 12w3s running and i'm at around 1000watts of true power. i have the stock battery and a yellow top optima. this is the second time i have had a problem with the jaguar. the electric shop has refused to work on it after this. i installed the amp and battery. grinded down the paint to bare metal for the ground, and daisy chaining the positive from the primary battery to the yellow top. is there something i can do? please help me out guys, i don't want to lose my sound system, i was a bass head in my lexus i had 4 12's in that bad boy and that thing was nasty. they were regular pioneer champions, and now i have nicer jl 12w3's for sound quality. i don't want to lose the sound system but if i have to i will. is there anyone who makes a nice 150 amp or higher alternator for the xk8? its a 2001 by the way. thank you joel

Joel, it looks like 120 amps is the largest you'll find, I tried to google a few other places and came up empty)

I too had an interior light dimming problem when I installed my new system, albeit maybe a bit smaller than yours, but nevertheless, the JL Audio 500/1, coupled with the rockford 4-ch amp, new components and a single JL Audio 10w6v2, the bass robbed my dash of illumination. The only thing I did to correct it, was install a 2 farad capacitor under the amp for the 500/1 only.



I've never had a dimming problem since. I didn't even replace the alternator until 3 years after I made that modification.

Unlike your Lexus, jaguar puts the battery in the boot, and runs only the smallest wire necessary to get voltage towards the front of the car...into the modules, into the console, and into the lights of the instrument cluster. Since we mount our amps back nearest to the battery, the amp draws all of the juice it needs first, and starves the rest of the car down the line (as it distributes energy toward the front of the car). Of course huge power and ground cables makes it easier on the battery also.
