Default 2001 XK8 autolock?

I've read a few posts on HOW TO, but they mention locking the door with the lock button on top of the handle? I don't have a lock button?

do others?
How can this be done without that button, unless I'm reading for a different model...

Thanks

RS

Sounds like a feature on the 2007 and later XK & XKR.

On my '01 if you push in the handle while inside the car it locks both doors. Is that what you are trying to do?

What he said above- push your handle inwards and it should lock. Makes it almost impossible to lock your keys in the car. Notice I said ALMOST.

Steve (WhiteXKR) thinks you mean the EXTERIOR door handle. Mike (Jag#4) and dsnyder586 think you mean the INTERIOR door handle.

Whichever it is, there is no lock button on top of either of the door handles on an XK8.

The later XK model with keyless entry has a button in the driver's door handle ........

...... but it doesn't have one on the inside.

semi-off topic.. wish there was an easy way to program it so it wouldn't auto-lock and unlock all doors. I'm just a single guy who rarely drives with a passenger and it seems like the door lock actuators are going to get worn out with all the locking and unlocking.

I know I'm weird like that.. worrying about things failing before they do.

I'm with Matt, these are dealer program able, but I am so tired of my passenger being locked out as soon as I touch the shifter or forget to press the unlock 2x.

Just pull the driver's inner door handle out from the lock to the unlock position (not the open position) and it automatically moves the passenger door handle to the unlock position too.

Default xk8 autolock

OK, Thanks for the replies.... I was able to pull the driver handle and the doors unlocked, But since I have been trouble shooting different things that stopped happening now? I wanted to disengage the auto lock but it seems that's a Dealer program?? But the Fob unlocks and locks no problem, My issue now is when I pull the key I have to hit unlock on the fob to unlock...

Rs , yes disengage of auto lock is dealer programming. I suppose auto lock is a good safety feature. Same thing about the need to press unlock twice I was whining about above.

Sounds like you are now unable to unlock from inside the cabin if you don't press the key fob ? That is so strange I need to double check for clarity.

Good clarification. Makes me wonder if unlock via fob takes a different path (different modules involved) than unlock via door handle.

Gonna need someone smarter than me, but to help set you up for quickest answer: We have discussed 2 of the 3 ways to unlock. #3 Does lock unlock work from drivers door key operation ?

Default Unlock

The Inside handle does NOT UNLOCK any doors.. There are no little buttons or lock slides. Just the small handles. I might just do a reset. I had the battery out to recharge when I first bought it and didnt lose the radio. Just the windows and I just reset them soo. Ill try that I guess..

I think you read too fast. Clearly the inside door handles do not lock or unlock. I was thinking out loud about the difference in the signal path to unlock the doors between the key fob and the handle.

My question was: Does the key, when inserted in the outside of the drivers door by the handle work the locks. Have you tried it yet ?

I know this is an old topic but my 2003 xkr has the same problem. Autolocks when I put it in gear and sometimes I can't unlock by pulling the internal handle out. It just pulls out but nothing happens. I can reach across to the passengers door handle and unlock that way. Otherwise I have to pull the key out and unlock using the fob. Fortunately more often then not the unlock using the handle works but I guess eventually it will become a full time problem.
I want to have the auto lock feature disabled (don't need this level of security in NZ...... yet). Has anyone who has had this problem got a resolution?

I expect you can disable it. Probably need IDS.

Just got the car home, 2001 XK8. How on earth do the doors lock from outside the car? I figured out how to do it from inside, but they won't lock from outside.

No button

No key fob
I've been reading the thread, some people are pushing buttons on the handle, key fobs, etc. Don't have any of that.

to lock the car from the outside, insert key into hole next to handle, turn left and it should lock both doors. Turn right to unlock. If you hold to the right, after unlock, the windows will go down, continue holding and the rear windows will lower, the top will unlock and open as long as you hold it there. If convertible top is fully operational. Hold key to the left and it will close the top.
