Default 2002 XKR Coupe

Hi, Im brand new to the forum and purchased my 1st Jaguar this week. I bought a beautiful 2002 XKR in Anthracite/Charcoal. When my mechanic checked the car out, he said that the only problem was that it was missing a skid plate (undertray, belly pan) under the front bumper. He is not a Jag Specialist and I am wondering if this part exists and if it is necessary to replace. Any info is appreciated. Thanks, Dean

Congrats but be sure to check out the "usual suspects" such as hydraulic lines (if a convertible) and the headrest adjustment.

1st off welcome to J/F

My beleif is they put this plate on there for a reason
1)To protect the oil pan if you bottom out
2)keep road debri from flying up in your engine compartment

Also I find if you let 1 thing go without repairing, next something else will quit working(without repairing) Then before you know it, you are driving a piece of crap.

My 97 has a small valence but no belly pan, should one be there? Is there a diagram online that I can look up?

There is an undertray which fixes to the front corners of the bumper and to the front cross member, it also connects to the wheel arch liners and if you dont have one the front of the car will be all 'floppy' as this gives the bumper some rigidity (I am waiting for the Viagra jokes to start) You will also wear your wheel arch liners away as there is nothing to stop the wind pressure pushing them against your wheels as you are going along.
