Hello all. Especially y'all XKR owners out there.
You know who you are.
I had the rad out today to change the condenser all in attempt get my AC working. Right success I'm happy to say.
But I noticed something, missing... I think.
There was no between rad and condenser X cross brace. I can't imagine I removed it or left it off in my earliest days of working on this car. It's the rescue flood car.
On the bottom I can see the familiar 2 threaded holes that would accept the bottom bolts for a cross brace but no top ones, unless I'm missing something? I looked at the 2002 XK8 which has 2 outward facing holes on the top and bottom, and a heavy X cross brace bolted into the body/chasie with out facing bolts.
Does the XKR Convertible not have the heavy cross between the rad and condenser?
If you have a convertible you should have one. Coupes did not come with the cross brace.
Thanks Owen... I've been looking around and know you're right... Crazy. I'm thankful that I haven't taken this ol thing on any long rides, yet...
I've been looking around. There expensive. I'm learning (I think) there are two types over the years. Earlier have 4 flat forward facing bolt attachment points, I think later have flat forward facing bolt attachment points at the bottom, while the upper attachment points are angled horizontally and bolted from the underside UP... I haven't seen anything for under 150 yet...
Can find NO part numbers for the intercooler radiator braces/bracket top mounts. Honestly, I don't know how I missed ALL that is missing...
Yes! That's the bit...
Believe it or not I've seen this photo BUT didn't look closely closely enough... Is it right that there is a split, that there is a different design for different years? I see one type for the 97-02, then another with the horizontally bolted section up top,,, but all ebay listings and others have them mis-labled...
Then, my resident expert, what about the bits circled in the photo below... I cannot believe that I hadn't noticed all of this missing... Intercooler radiator brackets...
Thing is now, to find them. The supports for the intercooler rad seems rare rare! I think what I will have to do is contact individual sellers and ask them if they can go pull them off a car they have. The X brace, it seems that sellers of parts I see lump in all parts under one part number - SC and non-SC. I believe that the upper arms of the SC X brace are horizontal and bolt in UNDER the upper cross brace just over the radiator. I'll have to take a closer look at that.
Looks like I'll stop driving a while and start saving my pennies... I can't believe what for are asking mg for these parts. They must know something that I don't, lol...
Again Michael, many thanks.
I need that parts application that you're working with!

If you get one from a SC car, they're the same throughout the MYs. Otherwise, from any 2003-on convertible.

Haha,,, yeah, no. Now I remember looking at the the jaguar site application and the operating systems etc,,, and I think I left the technology to better men, lol. Lots there...
Thank you, Michael... really
I purchased the rad brace and some grommets/bushings to fit it. Can't find the NLA one anywhere but will keep searching. The cross X brace,,, yeah - pennies into the piggy bank. They must know if folks need that piece, they must REALLY need it (front end collision maybe) and the prices are high. I'll find one of those from an unsuspecting seller who has it for a "normal" price.
Dont know what I'd do without you man.
Many thanks.

JEPC isn't the faff that JTIS is - it should install fine. I'm using a 64bit Windows 7 laptop and no issues.

It's madness. I see Terry's Jag have one at a sale price of only $639. For a pair of steel tubes welded together in the middle - really?
OMG!! You could fab some for a few bucks and some sweat. That's highway robbery. I'm with Jay, your are indeed Micheal, a godsend to this forum and we unworthy Jag wrenches.
Don't be humble or modest, accept the thanks. You have saved us thousands of pounds/dollars and heart ache. Good day, TM
So, 1 down, 2 to go. The LH intercooler rad brace came in from JLRC quick fast,,, and the install (with little rubber bush) went in in 5min... still on the hunt for that cross brace from a wrecker and unsuspecting seller. Can't pay 200+ for the X brace. Just can't
So, just to close this out, kinda... I'm still in the hunt for the upper supercharger rad support (RH side) BUT I did break down and buy the X cross brace... Got it from "PLAYGROUND PAR" on eBay for 136$... Not bad considering there are sights asking 650$ for 2 pieces of bar/pole stock welded together in the middle with 2 nutts welded to it on one side, and two holes drilled in the other. smh... They really must figure and have great luck with them prices when someone bangs up the front of their XK and insurance gets involved, o well...
Someday I'll break out my mig welder and actually do something with it!
So, the important stuff, in the event that someone needs to replace this part, and why would they,,,,? I hope no one does! There are two versions of this brace.
Version one, the one for the NON supercharged car, has two horizontal flats at the TOP end of the brace. The flats bolt into/onto the underside of the upper cross support just in front to the rad. The two lower bolts bolt in at the bottom cross brace frame support and the bolts go in, well, if you're reading this you'll see em.
Version 2 (and I couldn't find anyone who could identify which version was which definitively - even Jaguar Land Rover Classic customer service) has NO horizontal flats at the top end of the brace and the brace is bolted into the brackets (circled in red in one of the photos above) that support the supercharger cooler/rad which are bolted into the upper framing cross support just in front of the rad...
Super easy to install. 20min or less... Non Supercharged version. Two circled are up top bolted into the frame. Supercharger version. Easy peasy.
