Default 2005 Jaguar XKR 4.2 upgrades?? Need help

I was wondering if some of you could help me. I just purchased the car 2005 and I know there are some aftermarket upgrades out there ( Mina ).

I’d like to know what really works and what does not.

1) intake tube With stock box Vs K&N cone
2) exhaust
3) Supercharger pulley

K&N cone in under the hood will suck more hot air than anything else, whereas the stock box breathes from inside the fender. A nice intake tube looks good though.

Exhaust will change the sound of the car, which some people like, but doesn't really do much for power.

Supercharger pulley will make more power. Other options in this space are different S/C gearing, having he Eaton ported and polished, installing a larger (bored) throttle body. The pulley is the easiest and least expensive upgrade and something that most people who modify their cars will do.

Not a bad kit, lots of members have some combination of those parts. The pulley is the only one that makes for more power, but maybe you want some sound and shiny bits too.

I am not immune, I polished the whole intake.

I have done all the things you are talking about to my 06 xkr. All came from Mita. The exhaust straightens out the exhaust and removes a resonator in the middle which improves flow and gives a nicer tone to the sound but doesn't seem to add noise to the cabin.

The air intake can be improved with the whole kit, tube and all. The kit comes with a baffle that shields the air intake from the engine. There is good air flow to the intake because of the hood lovers, that's why they are there. The stock in take box has a door on the bottom that opens only as rpm increases.

These two things help the car just as they do on any other car with an internal combustion engine.

The smaller pully on the SC probably makes the single biggest difference, take the hood off if you do that to change it.

All in all it's over $1300.00 to do it all, is it worth it ? Well I think so. If you it all you can also have the computer remapped which is a good idea.

Good Luck and have fun

Question Let's Hot Rod our New 15 Year Old XKR.....Brettl

Brettl, Your XKR is already a Hot-Rod! But you want it to do more! But think it though! About all you are going to do is spend Money and after all is said and done-------according to the amount of money you spend is maybe 40HP and that 40HP will cost you a bunch....and then you will want more!! Look at me and ccfulton….Now Charley has gone all the way and bought the Big HP! His overall cost is probably close to $15,000.00 to $18,000.00 or more but he bought a couple hundred Horses or so! along with several other goody's....Most of us can just barely make the repair bills created by the most Beautiful Car in the World....So before you start spending all your Money at Mina...you should do what you are apparently doing....asking a lot of questions about what works and how much does it cost and where to get it...…

My suggestion is to back off! Enjoy what you have for a while.....Read the Forum and see what works and what doesn't! Then when you see the way, the money you spend won't be wasted....First, you need to make the outside look really good.....Send us some photos of your XKR and let us suggest some things you might want to do to make it prettier....The motor stuff will wait....It runs fast enough now....!

Let us know more about it!

I did all those things because I enjoy tinkering with cars and to see whether I could make the modifications. I have also done other things to the interior and some electrical mods that did nothing at all for performance.

None of it was worthwhile in the financial sense, but that wasn't really the point.

If horsepower is the only thing you crave, there are far cheaper ways to do it than a Jaguar. But you are here, so I suspect that might not be all that you are after.

Charlie,

No offense was meant toward you in what I said to Brettl.. I would love to have your set-up and was offered one like it, but I'm was just to old and stubborn to spend the Money! As far as all the other things you have done, I have tried to follow suit...and I appreciate most of the things I have added to my XKR! It is much better now than when I started with it.... and I thank you very much for the help you have given me over the past 2 or 3 years! Also, I hope I have helped Brettl at least a little bit...

Default Maybe a quick look on Youtube

It’s all personal preferences and, of course, the size of your wallet. I don’t have the Gen3 X100 but....

Check out this Youtube channel on a potential wish list.

You are correct I plan to do other modifications to the car other than horsepower. I just like to be able to get as much out of the car as I can. This is not my first jaguar it’s my 4th so I am not new to the game. If I wanted to get cheap horsepower I would have.

So in the end I think the question that I asked is reasonable. I would really appreciate talking to someone that has made these modifications maybe a forum member will be able to reach out to me and message me their phone number.

The single best mod, among many, that I have carried out is the fitment of an LSD.

The cheapest was cleaning out the inlet tract from below the TB thru the SC coolers which were pretty badly clogged up with soft carbon so they were ineffective.

I have taken measures to stop that clogging happening again including water/meth injection and an oil catch can.

Other mods: smaller pulley, X pipe replacing center muffler, range rover inlet pipe (better flow), and stage one cold air intake pipe.

It's my understanding that the louvers are primarily to remove hot air from the engine bay, that's why they are angled back and also to try and reduce lift
on the front end at speed.

But don't we appreciate it just a little more and feel a bit more special because we had to work for it?

I have always loved Jags since I first saw one back in the early 80s when I was 13. I said to my parents that I am going to buy one when I get older. They were like “ya whatever”. I am now on number #4

Here we are on #2

1987 XJ6 18,000 original miles

#3

1998 VDP XJ8 45,000 miles

#4

2005 XKR 4.2 34,000 miles
