As noted in thread searches, Start car, put car in reverse after setting parking brake and turn off ignition switch. Exit car with key still in run position and go to rear of car. A stethoscope is helpful in listening for a clicking sound coming from each of the 4 sensors (assuming same as earlier mdls). If any one is not clicking, it is defective. If all click, another problem exists such as unplugged sensor, control module defect or the alert warning device (Buzzer) is defective. These are some suggestions I discovered when my alert was not working. It had a bad sensor. This is a common sensor on Ford, BMW and Other European cars. Two center
sensors are straight type and 2 corner are angle type. The China vendor I used on E-bay had a sensor stamped Made In Germany. Figure that?

+1 on the function check.

If there's no clicking and the fuse is OK, next check connections to the Module (item 8) and Speaker (item 5).

The Module is in the corner of the Luggage Compartment next to the spare wheel. The Speaker is inside the rear of the Centre Console.

Hello Salu498,

Did you get your backup sensors to sound? Mine are all clicking when I listen with the stethoscope but no warning is sounded. Does that mean they are all functioning properly and I should be looking at the module or the speaker? Or is there still a potential problem with one of the sensors?

this may help someone else save a few dollars :

clean them. Sounds basic, but if they are grimy the operation is intermittent.

Sounders Sensors all ticking is a good start. Next move must be to check out the sounder/speaker. I believe it's under the parcel shelf on your S Type

S type? He has an XK8 correct?

Anyway I believe the buzzer/beeper thingy is on the rear of the centre console. Hang on I will see if I can find you a picture.

Ok this is my article on fixing a 'Green Shower' replacing the hydraulic hoses, yes I know it does not sound relevant. However if you follow the link. Keep scrolling down the pages quite a way you will see the bit where I remove the cover at the centre console and release that buzzer/sounder thingy. Just look for the picture with the large blue plastic lever thingy. You will know it when you see it. Here is the link. https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthre...=1#post1094300

Hope it helps.

I just saw this " 2006 xk8 backup sensors" on his topic list/title. Perhaps he altered it after posting. Anyway heard nothing back yet. Perhaps he has solved the problem? Would be nice to know.

Hi Frank and astromorg.
It is an S type. I thought that backup sensors would be fairly similar model to model. I can't tell an S type from an X type from the rear in these early 2000 models and I figured the sensors would be common to both models. Regardless, I am now looking hard at the module because I have a CATS system fault that emanated from the neighbouring module on the trunk wall and this car suffered water entry sometime in its history. I had a look at the connector but it seems to be good and clean. The module and its mount have white stains on them probably from water.

I had my usual problem removing the connector---it seems that every connector has a secret as to how it should be removed. I will attempt to show the pictures I took of the connector for other dullards like me who have never met such a collection of connectors before. As per usual I broke a little of the plastic off before I found the secret on this connector. I have managed to upload the pictures of the connector removal for those like me.

Thank you both for you help. Much appreciated.

Bob
