Default 2006 xk8 security and locking module

Jaguar of Reno, NV diagnosed my problem as a defective Security and locking Module. The part is no longer available from jaguar. They obtained a used one and now advise that 2006 was the only year that the part is married to the car and a used one cannot be programmed to work. They claim that I am stuck with the problem. However, the module has a label on it that states, "this part is programmable". Am I being fed a line of BS?

I would think it is BS, especially if the component states it is programmable. Perhaps they lack the proper equipment or knowledge, or both to do the job. Some components in the car have to match the VCATS number etched in the trunk. I believe the last two digits is what is most important; in that sense the module is 'married' to the car, but the same is true for all MY's modules, in that the last two digits need to match the replacement module, or it will not work. If they sourced a replacement module with the proper VCATS number but the last two digits, i.e. 'xxxxxxx 051', do not match your module's last two digits 'xxxxxxx 052', then it will not work period.

The bigger question is what symptoms presented that led you, or the mechanic to believe the SLCM is the problem? Did you post the initial problem on the site before taking it to a mechanic? Allot of problems with these vehicles have surprisingly simple solutions and work arounds, that are unlikely to be known by a mechanic not familiar with X100 Jaguar vehicles.

The last time I called the dealership in Seattle regarding a problem, I was getting no where fast with one of the mechanics I was speaking with, luckily they have a mechanic on staff that is extremely familiar with the X100 series. Which is good as the other mechanics I spoke to regarding the problem with my car were completely oblivious to the model's features and it's eccentricities. Once I mentioned that it was an X100, even though I had stated 2003 Jaguar XKR at the start of the conversation, he was like 'oh, yeah, ok hold on a minute', he put me on hold for ~three minutes, talked to the other mechanic familiar with the X100 series and had an answer to my problem.

There are also a couple of Companies that repair damaged Modules, do a site search. One of the companies is named ASI, and the other is Module Masters, in Idaho. This way you can send your original module off to them and have it refurbished. From what I have read on site, turn around time is around three to four days and cost is fair to have your original module repaired.

In your Intro you mentioned fitting a Body Processor Module and here you talk of a replacement Security and Locking Module.

No mention of the problem ..........?

I went for years with a "check rear lights" problem my specialist told me was due to a defective SLCM, even bought one but it didn't fix the problem which was caused by the brake pedal position switch being faulty.

This means I have a spare, part number LJE2600BD which I bought on ebay.

Let me know if you're interested.

Wink Reinstated SLCM by Jaguar UK

Associated reply only, not specific to this vehicle listed with the problem.
My 1999 XKR convertible SLCM part number LJB2600BC011 was made obsolete by Jaguar UK and they did not seem to know why ??
However after talks with their technical dept they have now offered to reinstate a part number to replace the original as they have stocks of the blank motherboards.
They have reinstated the item with a new part number LJB2600BD011 and is available to special order only.
They will program a blank motherboard with the correct information for this convertible soft top vehicle.
It's not cheap but it's reassuring to have a new part available again. Cheers JRP
