Default 3rd Brake Light Not Working....Puzzled

Good Morning,

On my 2002 convertible I am having trouble figuring out why my 3rd brake light is not working. First off I have access to a parts car in which the lights work. I moved the light and the harness from that car over to mine and vice versa and it works fine both ways (my light works on the other car but not on my car). From what I understand there is a 5 amp fuse in the trunk (#8 I was told) and that is good.

Therefore it must be some problem before the trunk harness. Can anyone help shed any light? It's not a huge concern if it doesn't work but it would be nice.

Thank you,

Rob

Mine wasn't working, and neither was my trunk release button. I removed the cable that connects the trunk to the bulkhead next to the stereo and buzzed it out. Two of the wires were broken. I spliced them together, and everything works now. Pretty easy job to do, overall.

+1

Harness break where it flexes every time the luggage compartment lid is opened and closed.

Thanks I will check that. My trunk release and license plate lights work, so must just be pinching the brake light wire.

Thanks so much guys for the information. A wire was broken right at the bend and it now works great.

Thanks for providing this link. This was my exact problem (broken wires in the harness).

Yes, great information on this forum. I see this thread is now 4 years old and the brake light repair is still working well.
