Default 97 XK8 Cruise control

I hope someone can save me a lot of time. My cruise control does not work, but there are no stored codes and the light on the center console button is on. If it is a brake switch problem would the light still come on? The brake lights work.

If it was a brake switch you would get an "Engine Fault" warning come up on the speedo, you will need a proper diagnostic cheack done by someone with IDS, Autoenginuity or similar, ordinary hand held readers will not go deep enough into the system to do the checks

I'm using Autoenginuity. No codes. So it looks like I'll have to look at the wiring on the wheel buttons or the clockspring. I was hoping to avoid that. Thanks for responding.
