Default Has anyone lightened up their vehicles?

Just curious...

Where is the easiest weight to lose (other than leaving the spare out)?

I wonder how much a carbon hood and trunk lid would cost...

Unsprung weight is always good to shed...savings in the weight of wheels and tires has a higher payback than the equivalent weight of other items.

Some wheel and tire combinations can weigh many pounds less than others. Bigger rim sizes among like designs equal more unsprung weight, for example. Certain performance tires can weigh 3 - 4 pounds less than others. It adds up, especially when the weight is rotating and unsprung.

Just a thought.

Yeah, that is completely true. Less rotational weight means faster acceleration. Good point.

It also means faster deceleration, according to our old friend Mr. Newton.

Before you begin to think it's all good don't forget about mass, kinetic energy and MPG, a.k.a. money outta your wallet.

Ain't I a heckuva buzzkill? ;-)

You have to balance smiles per mile with MPG.

What about tossing the back seat? Has to be a few pounds there.

Indeed it is...... I removed 55lbs just from one door, incredible amout of weight, I actually weighed each piece and kept a tally, only prob is I have not weighed the replacement parts I fitted but I guarantee its nothing to what I lost.

I am often asked what is the cheapest performance mod you can do and to be honest they don't exist, all permonace mods that work cost $$$$.... But..... If you are willing to make your life a little harsher removing as much excess weight as possible not only improves your performace and BHP per ton but you can sell the parts removed and actually make money

And there is also the onboard weight of the driver.

So ... a diet and driving in the nude

The second one won't pass tech inspection though.

Passing inspection might then depend on how much weight the driver loses and the inclinations of the inspector ...
