97 XK8 ECU Repaired and Replaced
Shop left me a voicemail that I can pick my XK8 up which seems to indicate the repair removed the misfiring fault codes for 2 Cylinders on each bank.
Fingers crossed!
My question is what needs to be done regarding the ECU resetting? It’s critical because my vehicle needs to be retested at the smog inspection station. It failed due to battery replacement last month which started this odyssey.

It will likely now show only P1000 meaning DTC's have been cleared and all engine management OBD diagnostic monitor drive cycles HAVE NOT BEEN COMPLETED.
Although normal driving will eventually complete the tests, this can take a very long time and many thousands of miles You will need to use "Drive Cycles" (see attached) to do this in the shortest possible time and show P1111.

Long and typically empty stretches of rural roads are best for doing these drive cycles. Being familiar with the time of day (or night) when these roads are most empty always helps....
I’ve been doing short trips since my vehicle was returned to me. No stalling issues or rough idle and fires up instantly. The only issue is when accelerating it occasionally seems to be pushing back or exhibits lack of power. Today I drove quite a bit in 2nd so I could get the revs up to 4K for a period of time. My question? Is this behavior indicative of the ECU needing to reset itself while driving the cycles or something else? Thanks in advance.

I don't think so. All of the ECU rebuilds that I have heard about are plug & play. The drive cycles are for the emission system and not engine performance. Fuel filter, air filter, throttle body, possibly even fuel pump might be at fault.
Next day I drove about 70 miles on the Freeway and local streets and switched between manually shifting and auto. There were no issues with stalling and no check engine lights over the period of 2 hours and I decided to see if I could get my smog retest. Before rechecking, they plugged a scanner in and it showed 2 codes were still incomplete one for O2 Sensor and one for Catalytic Converter, he said to drive even more to complete those before returning.
Any ideas?
