Just removed the ABS Module from my wife's 2001 XK8 to do the module repair. Unfortunately I had to remove the 4 brake lines from the valve body to free the unit.

My question is when I go to reinstall the module AM I GOING TO HAVE TO BLEED THE BRAKES or am I ok to go with it?

What do you think? Thanks in advance.

 

97XJR, figure of bleeding the brakes, you will have air in the distribution chambers and in the lines. You could get away with maybe bleeding at the connection at the module, but not a good idea.

I did it without bleeding the first time, but I was planning on flushing the system and wasn't too concerned. Bleeding is a good idea, but when was the last time the system was flushed? Should be every couple of years, but many cars are never done.

 

I did the same for my repair, and did not bleed the brakes. There was fluid up to the top of each circuit, so it's hard to believe a significant amount of air could have gotten in for the short period they were disconnected.

 

No point running the risk of not bleeding the brakes. Anyone knows the sequence one should beed the system?

 

The usual sequence of bleeding any car's brakes is to start at the wheel furthest from the master cylinder, and move closer. RR LR RF LF. Pump the brakes slowly when bleeding them......My 2 cents........Mike

 

I just did the same job. first I fixed the module. I has to cut open the case to get out the circuit board and re-solder the broken solder connection to the power pins. I then silicone the module case back together. After remounted the ABS unit I tried it without bleeding and it worked OK but the pedal was a little soft. I then used my wife to press the brake pedal on command an first bled the lines at the ABS module until the fluid ran clear. I added new Pentosin fluid to flush the system at the same time. The I bled each wheel until the fluid ran clear. After doing all 4 the brakes were hard and firm. Better than when I got the car! Bleeding the brakes is well worth doing if you open the system

 

This is how I did mine but I did not remove ant lines.

I tried what you did but could not get move the ABS pump unit enough to move the module off the valve block. I ended up taking the lines off. Was yours a LHD car?
All is well as it gave me a good opportunity to flush the fluid and then bleed all wheels.

 

Yes my car is a LHD.
