Not sure if this matters but when in park and I press the brakes I hear a relay click under the shifter console. No clicking when in drive or reverse. Is this normal? Thanks

Default Brake Switch

I had a similar issue with my cruise control, it's the switch. These guys were the cheapest (on line) at about $50.

JaguarParts.com :: Original parts for your Jaguar

There are great instructions here on the forum - I installed mine in about 1/2 hour. You'll need a helper for about 10 minutes.

Has anyone pulled the old switch apart to see what went wrong?

No but would welcome the opportunity to look into it.

Good morning Gus
I may pull the switch this evening and see if it can be easily disassembled. If not, I'll be glad to send it to you if you'd like. Thanks to all for the great advice.

Ok I'm a little confused after reading the posts again. Do I have a brake switch or cruise control switch defective, or are we talking about the same thing. I searched JaguarParts.com :: Original parts for your Jaguar and found a park brake switch. Is this what I need or do you have a part number? Thanks

have my old one that you can have. There's practically nothing to them, just two $2 microswitches in a housing. No need to spend much money on a new one if you can solder. Send me a PM and I'll put it in the mail

The brake pedal switch does two things - signals the brake lights to come on and disconnects the cruise control when you hit the brakes. 2 micro switches do the job. I keep my cruise on all the time and, in my case, the fault in the switch would disconnect the cruise ( e.g. - the curise control On/Off light would go off and the switch become inoperative) and a "Failsafe" message would pop up. It would reset every ingition cycle, but not last very long. For people who don't keep their cruise on all the time this relationship can be hard to see - all they observe is a Failsafe message and they'll never see the cruise light go off simultaneously...

For my 2000 XK8 the part number is LJB6420BB.

"Switch.brake Ped" $59.50

Double check with a phone call to make sure of your particular application 800-783-5247x231

The switch is unsealed and comes apart with 2 screws and the relevant parts consist of a small circuit board and 2 micro switches. I'm sure you could just replace those and be done with it.

Good luck

I received the brake switch today and my plan was to wait until this weekend when I'd have a helper but as usual the more I sat on the sofa the more I couldn't resist so I headed to the garage and in less than 30 min I was done. I used my finger to feel the hole near the engine and after getting the stud started into this hole it was a piece of cake. I used some crumpled newspaper to hold the switch in place. From the engine bay I used my finger nail to press against the lower stud and gently started the nut on the upper stud. The brake lights work fine so the only thing left is a test drive this weekend. Thanks for everyone's help and if anyone wants the old switch just ask.
