Default Alarm goes off 2006 xkr coupe

Lately (it seems) sometimes when I lock the car with the remote, the alarm goes off.

I have re-thought what I might have done and while I dont think I have done anything differently other than press the lock button once , perhaps I did not hear the qiet chirp the first time when pressing the lock button so I pressed it again and maybe that is setting off the alarm? Any thoughts?

If you can't come up with anything you think might be tripping the security system, you could resort to a trip to the dealer and let them read the 'last alarm data'. That will give the last 6 or 8 things that set off the alarm. Usually points to a door sw. or some such.

Good luck.

I do that same thing about once every 6 months, its always after i've locked the car with my remote, stick it in my pocket, and the dang thing goes off...no rhyme or reason that I can figure, but I keep telling myself I triggered the panic sequence while stuffing it in the pocket. Scares the bujesus out of me too.

Anyone else have this problem? Mine is doing this and the best I can tell is that when it goes off it is because there is a slight delay from the time the alarm is activated (the beep) after pushing the remote, and when the door actually locks.

The alarm activates immediately (beeps) and I can hear the door lock about one second after the activation. That is when it goes off. If it locks the same time as the activation it does not go off.

Any ideas how to fix this? As noted earlier it is LOUD!

Thanks! I will give this a try.

While we're at it, what is that other noise (besides the horn) that these late 90's early '00s Jags make when the alarm goes off?

When I first heard it as an 8 year old I literally crapped my pants.

Anyone figure out what is triggering the alarm to go off? This happened regularly with my old 2003 XKR and I figured that it was just a quirk to the car. It had been in an accident before and had some electrical oddities so I chalked it up to that. Well I got my "new" 2003 XKR about a month and a half ago and the alarm goes off every other day randomly after I lock the car with the remote. It is maddening and certainly not a joy for the neighbors to hear when I get home. Lol, I feel for them as I head to the gym three mornings a week before work and get home at 7 AM with the alarm going off about once a week at that time. Add that to my wife's obsession with windchimes and I fear our stock is dropping in the neighborhood

There is a feature in WDS/IDS called LAST ALARM ACTIVATION that will point to the item that triggered the event.

Yes, I was reading about that in the threads I found while researching this. I do not have a WDS/IDS reader but rather a basic OBDII reader. Are you thinking that the recurring alarms are triggered by a faulty sensor or something monitoring a trigger point rather than a high level system issue?

Could be something as simple as a faulty boot lid switch? Or door latch switch?

Diagnose or start replacing all related security system components one-by-one?

How often is your passenger door opened and closed? If your answer is rarely, then make a habit of doing so at least every few days. That helps to keep the door latch switch in proper operating condition and may solve your issue. It did for my wife's 2006 XK8 which she no longer drives so I take it out for a 25-mile exercise romp at least once a week. When the car would go for a couple of months without having its passenger door opened and closed, it would randomly set off the alarm from time to time. I read about the passenger door regular open/close trick here on the forum and once I began doing so, the random alarm issue magically disappeared. I now open/close that door every time I drive the car....

Thank you both for the input. It sounds to me like the common issue is switches in the doors and trunk. Would have never guessed but knowing this I will try to open the passenger door more often. It does get opened once or twice a week which is not too bad but going to experiment with that and also see if the local Jag indy that I go to might have the IDS system to check for the last alarm cause. I will have to bring the car up to them sometime soon for other issues and will check back with the forum when I get an update. As always, very much appreciate everyone's input and effort to help!
