Default Alarm Problems

Since yesterday my alarm keeps going off randomly and with no apparent reason. I was involved in a very minor crash yesterday as a van driver decided to hit my rear bumper (in traffic and quite slow) and the bumper needs respraying but since the crash the alarm just keeps going off on its own to the point I cannot lock the car anymore!!!

Sometimes it goes off 15 secs after I set it, other times it can take 30 minutes or more but it has gone off 4 times.

Any thoughts if my accident could somehow be related to this?

Thanks,

Pavlos

I'm no expert - but I'd guess definitely the bump you had is playing a part.

Having said that, over the recent HEAVY and constant rain we have had in London, my alarm has sounded randomly to. Just an un-lock then re-lock and its sorted. I guess there could be a short somewhere.

Default More on Alarms

Hi Pavos,
What type of alarm system do you have?
Some cars have a main alarm and a secondary alarm, I have the same problem but only the secondary alarm (called passive alarm) goes off.
The main alarm sounds the horn and flashes the lights, the passive has a separate speaker/sounder and just gives a series of beeps (the main horns and lights stay off.)
I think the passive systems came with the sat-nav package.

My passive alarm goes off when it feels like it, and I cant find anyone that has or has had this problem? beginning to think my car is possessed!!

some system have an incline sensor that sounds the alarm if the car is lifted, that might have failed? jammed on impact???
All I know is mine is driving me crazy and I wish a member would come forward with a solution.
good luck I will be following your post so please keep us informed of progress.

A light rear impact could have affected the luggage compartment latch sending a false 'open' warning:

There's also two vulnerable modules at the rear of the vehicle:

Item 4 (Anti-Theft alarm and double locking module) and item 5 (Parking Aid module).

Following the accident, a loose connection or physical damage to the latch sensor or the anti-theft alarm module are possible causes of false and random alarms.

+1 to Graham's idea.
Worth checking the battery connections at the same time - if they've been shaken loose that can trigger an alarm when the car's locked.

The problem sorted itself out the next day. Have not had any issues since then. Perhaps the system was in shock due to the crash I don't know.

To be honest it was really weird during that day a lot (and I mean a LOT) of car alarms were going off.

Mine sorted itself out then came back with a vengeance it has stopped for about 2 weeks, but this has happened before.
I just can find out any information or test procedure, I was trying to find out more about the incline sensor thinking that might be sticking from time to time, a rear end might jam that up?
without information what can you do?
Just when I got so fed up I was going to disconnect the sounder, it has stopped!!
so mine is working fine at the moment........
