Alternator light
On my recently installed 4.0 in my XK8 the alternator is charging but the red alternator light is 'ON'
HISTORY:
When I pulled the old engine out, whilst trying to get the oval plug at the alternator it disintegrated leaving the two wires just hanging there.
I was able to get a new oval connector from NAPA and connected the white/blue wire to Pin #1 and the yellow to Pin #2. Pin #1 being the one closest to the engine. Pin #3 not used
Battery voltage is 12.39 volts with engine 'off'. With Engine running the reading at the battery is being charged @14.37 volts. but the red light is 'ON' What could be causing this?
Also the second hand on the clock is touching the minute hand. Is there a way to open the gauge cluster to fix the second hand touching issue?
Thanks all.

I would suspect the regulator.
Changed over my alternator recently to new rebuild, warning light and "battery not charging" error message so pulled it out and bench test showed it to be charging ok, reinstalled but error and light remained even though it was making 14.5 volts at battery. Pulled it again and replaced regulator with good original and all good on reinstall.
Probably your regulator but if the voltage output is OK and you can live with the warning l see no harm.

Alternator light on however dim ALWAYS indicates faulty diodes.....The regulator is fine if it stops at 14.37v.
You can change the diodes yourself ..there are 9 of them .kits available but also consider the brushes will be worn as well as the bearings.

I've been comparing the charging voltage of my 2000 XKR with my other two cars while driving. My 2019 Honda CR-V and my Wife's 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman both charge around 14.5 volts. My XKR only charges at 13.5volts. Is there a why to adjust the charging voltage on the Jag? I'm thinking this voltage is pretty low and would like to boost it to be more like the other two cars we own.
With Older cars the voltage went over 14.5 at which point he battery starts to gas ...More modern cars stop the the 13.8 level to avoid gassing and reduce engine load ...its another emission crap scenario

Battery Voltage .
1964 (Dynamo) 15-15.5v gasses top up every week
1980 ( Alternator ) 14-14.4v No gassing
Now Computer controlled alternator 14.4 drops to 13.8v when charge current drops
Note 14.4v is only 80% of absolute capacity you need 15.5v for that
