Annoying Chirping
Hey just got my 2004 Jaguar XKR today! This may be something simple, but hopefully you guys can help me out! While driving for the first time, a beeping/chirping noise is emitted from the dash unit. There are NO idiot lights, and I'm clueless as to the cause of it. The chirping noise intemittently increases and decreases in frequency, for no forseen reason. This noise continues at cruising speed, but seems to become more frequent as you slow down. The Navigation system was turned OFF. So we eliminated the possibility of it being that. All comments and help is much appreciated!
Thanks

Is the noise rhythmic and consistent (e.g., 1 beat per second at one speed and 2 beats per second at another speed) or is it just some tone that goes up and down in frequency as speed changes? The only thing slightly similar that I notice is when I have the radio on an AM station there is a consistent background beat that sounds like a click that is about once per second regardless of speed. The sound is more noticeable in a parking structure or at an underpass and I am guessing that it has something to do with a gps signal that is transmitted.

It actually seems to be a warning beep but, there is nothing that comes up in the message center or no other warning lights. There is no consistency might sound every 10 seconds and then not sound for another one to two minutes. If I get time I will take it out tomorrow and try and get more detailed. Thanks.
Congratulations...nice Christmas present!
As for the chirping dash, I have not heard that one before...you may have a unique problem! Yeah! Try puttin git in reverse and backing close to something to see if it is th esame chirping. These senosrs are the only ting I can think of that chirp in the dash. If so, you may have a bad circuit or sensor in this system. You might try pulling the fuse or relay for the system and see if it quiets.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses! I have to put it away today for an upcoming Iowa snowstorm! The idea about the backup sensors makes sense, and I'll look into it! If pulling the fuse/relay doesn't work, I'll be sure to fill you guys in!
Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Checked for the squirrel. Nothing. Cautiously checked for the mother inlaw. Nothing. Found out that the car has an after market radar detector installed with sensitivity adjusted to high. Has adjusting dials mounted in the sun glasses holder on the left side of the steering column. Don't know exactly what I'm doing with the dials but, I can silence the noise. Thanks for the help everyone. Being a newbie to the Jag world I know I'll be back with other ?????? Be patient with me.

Don't worry, this is a very friendly and patient forum.
Now you just need to figure out the difference between active and passive radar detection, always good to know if someone has locked on.
