Evening,
I'm attempting to pair my phone with my Jag X100 XKR and I'm not having much luck. I've been following the instructions from here, but can't get it to work. Just to cover a few possible questions:
The car is a 2006MY (built 2005) XKR 4.2S
It has a microphone mounted near the driver's sun visor
I haven't checked under the centre console yet to see if any bluetooth modules are installed - but perhaps this is the next step
With the ignition on, I switch off the radio, then press the phone button - the display comes up with "PHONE" then very quickly "NO PHONE". It then goes blank. I've tried the "C TA" button to clear previous paired phones, and have also tried to input the codes to clear pairings and re-pair a new phone. The issue is that however many times I try, I can't get the display to say "SIG", and therefore I can't input any of the *# codes in the guide. Is there something obvious I'm missing, or do I need to take the centre console apart to confirm I have the module (even though the mic is installed)?
Thanks!
Your XKR, being one of the 4.2S models, very likely does have bluetooth, but, it's a very outdated form of bluetooth that probably will not pair with your phone. To the best of my flawed knowledge, the latest fruit company phone that is capable of pairing to it is the iPhone 4. YMMV
Ah yes, the guide did say that only some phones were compatible. I was hoping to try and pair it and see if it would just work.
I don't mind looking at aftermarket options, but was hoping I could get the factory one working.

I have an iPhone 4 gathering dust . Now I know it has value for someone

My IPhone 13 pairs with my 2006 XKR so I don’t think it’s a phone model issue. The pairing process button pushing sequence is a tricky one and if memory serves there is a supplement update that amended/updated the pairing button pushing sequence. Either way the newer phones will pair.
I remember my wife having a difficult time getting her iPhone to pair with her 2006 XK8 when we acquired the car back in early February 2012. After numerous attempts, she finally got it to pair up with the car after clearing all settings and then following the instruction booklet to the letter....
Thanks all for the advice - I'll give it another try and see if perserverence helps. If not I'll take a look under the centre console when I get a chance and see if the module is installed. Probably won't have time for a couple of weeks but I'll update here if I make any progress.
So I'm just reviving this thread having taken the centre console apart (to try and fix a separate audio issue). The bluetooth module is present, but it was unplugged - it looks like someone has had the centre console out before and forgotten to reconnect it. I've plugged it back in but still can't pair anything. Pressing the phone button on the radio, it briefly says "PHONE" then "NO PHONE", but then the "SIG" message never pops up, and none of the #* button presses show on-screen.
Interestingly I don't have the yellow connector which is commonly referenced on the forums. I have a small black (and red) connector, which links to the bluetooth module.
The module is labelled:
Jaguar P/N: 3W83-14B409-AA
Desc: BTUM
M P/N: J01BTU0202
A bit of searching around, and it looks like this is a module from an S-Type, I can't see much about it being standard in an X100. However the wiring all looks to be factory.
So, any thoughts about how to get this one to work, and whether it needs different key presses to pair a phone?
As ree we you wanting to connect to your phone for calling, or just for music ?
if music, it would much easier to install the Bluetooth kit from car audio. Many here have used their product and installation couldn’t be easier. I’ve had mine for 5+ years of faultless performance.
Ideally for calling too. It would be nice to work out how to get this working, though an aftermarket bluetooth module may end up being the way to go as I know these old modules aren't compatible with a wide range of modern phones.
I'm not sure if was related, but after replacing a failing amplifier (in the boot/trunk - this may well not have been a contributing factor though), I briefly saw the "SIG" message. I didn't have the correct codes to hand, and then couldn't get back to the SIG message despite many attempts following the instructions. It was only the following day after everything had been powered down for a while, and after switching on the ignition and not powering up the radio at all before pressing the telephony button, I managed to get the SIG message to display again. My phone paired easily, and has been working fine ever since. It works well for calls (obviously doesn't support media). Mine's a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
I think the main thing that helped here is after letting the car sit for a while (eg overnight), starting the pairing process without switching on the radio first seemed to be the key. If I switched it on, then switched it off again to start the process, it wouldn't work, even if I turned off and on the ignition first.
Either way, it's all working now, so I got there in the end!
I'm having the exact same issue with my new '06 XK8 VE. I'm going to try this with optimism...thanks! I'll post back with results in case it helps someone else.

I just tried the same thing--going out to the car after it has sat overnight and going through the procedure in the Quick Start guide that came in the manuals pack. The first time I pressed the Phone button, I got "Phone/No Phone" again--but only that first time. After that, I got "Phone," which stayed up for a couple seconds, then "SIG" as described in the Guide. Did exactly what the Guide said and it worked immediately.
So, to second: Do this pairing on a cold car without turning on the audio system. The phone button on the head unit will work with the audio system powered off. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S20 5G from 2020. I was encouraged to read that an S22 paired; figured I had good odds with an older one! Thanks for the suggestion!
Mine is a 2004 XK8 that is absent its owner's documents. Can anyone confirm whether is has the Bluetooth capacity of the later models?
Or can it be updated to the same?
I'd like to have phone function rather than just music add.
I do know that you can get a Bluetooth add-on if you have the CD changer that does not take away the function of the CD changer and it installs in the boot by the audio rack so you don't have to pull the head unit. Someone in our club put one in his. You can do music-only or phone-music. This link is goo as of 11 Feb 2025:

Whoops--missed that. Mine has Premium too. I don't know if the '04 would take the OEM upgrade, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're the same between yours mine. If someone else on here doesn't know, I'd call a Jag parts specialist like Auto Reserve or Jaguar Heaven and ask them. You might could get used working OEM components.
I have the BTH-JAG98 in my 2004 XKR with the Alpine system, very happy with it.
Indeed, the BTH JAG98 will work with 2004 Jaguar XK8 with OEM Alpine Premium sound system and retain CD changer function. The BTH JAG98R is for the non-premium sound system.
Glad the post has helped a couple of people. I just changed my phone and had the same issue with pairing (it just wouldn't work once I'd powered on the radio). Even switching it off for a minute or two didn't work. Locked the car, came back to it an hour later and went straight into programming without first powering on the radio, and it worked first (or maybe second) time.
For info, I now have a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra paired to the OEM bluetooth module, only done a very quick test call but it appears to work fine!
