Default Antenna Height

I don't like the way my car looks with the antenna all the way up. Has anyone come up with a way to limit the height the power antenna deploys?

I've wondered this as well. I know the antenna receives constant power when the radio is own, but I would imagine there is some way to limit how long the motor runs to raise it. Do you have the JTIS? It may show more how the system works and point to a possible solution. I've already added a switch to lower the antenna as explained here, but it would be nice to have a short antenna for those times when I need to have it up. I might pull out my JTIS and see what it shows.

Default Here's an idea

I've been working on my antenna and I believe the motor is stopped when the antenna reaches it's full heigth - whatever that is. If you find a shorter antenna it will simply extend to it's full height and the motor will stop when it reaches that point.

This is just speculation based on how the motor behaves on my car.

I also think the radio may be "tuned" toward a specific antenna height. If that is the case you might not receive good reception with a shorter antenna. Again, just a guess.

30" is the optimum length for an FM antenna. If the antenna isn't extended completely weaker stations will suffer and you may experience more dead spots on stronger stations.
